maybe you’re right, I’m not familiar with the first generation. But my second generation i3 in a laptop is quite decent(at least not bad) at editing videos. i7 aren’t… for everybody. they cost a lot and they are mostly oriented on professionals. i5 should do all of tasks quite easily. but of course, if you a professioal editor, creator, if you do it very often and in HD format, then i7 is definitely the only choice. if video editing is basic, not often and not HD, I’d stick to i3. if it’s quite often, sometimes HD I’d choose i5. if it’s all the time and it’s often HD it’s i7. My sourse is oly experience. I didn’t see any i3 ownsers who complained about speed yet. Also about your case of editing-it may have just been a poorly optimized editing program

really? don’t trust this stupid marketing. i3 processors have incredible speed, can easily be compared to most of i5-s.
I3-s fit for pretty much everything, as long as you are not using TOO much demanding applications. my i3 in a laptop(second generation), connected to a big, external display can handle:almost all of modern games(remember, it’s a laptop, so it’s a lot weaker than in a desktop), multiple displays, HD movies, multitasking and many other things. It’s not that great for video editing though(at least not with program I use) so for those who are gonna edit videos often I’d still recommend core i5. for pretty much everything else-go with an inexpensive and really fast i3
