We did test MetaLan with Avid MC 3.5 and “Virtualization for Avid” really works. We even created a workflow to make a project (.pmr) editable by 2 workstations at the same time. Then we saw Tiger Technology releasing a “how-to” on the same subject.

When i have time, i’ll try explain it to you.
You really initiated a change in (my) SAN’s perception Bob !

Hello again,

We did pass the AVID tests successfully. We were able to edit in the same Bins, and share the same projects between 2 workstations connected by MetaLAN over Gb Ethernet. They were both running Windows as the MetlaLAN virtualization plugin for AVID only works under Windows (server and clients).
I just asked Bernard Lamborelle from Tiger Technology for a second MetaLAN trial period as we really were amazed what this soft could offer. Waiting for his answer.
Excuse my bad english as i’m french.

Hi there,

First of all, a great great thanks to Bob Zelin from a french independant IT worker.
I discovered that my networking and video knowledge associated to your wonderful idea could be useful to small postproduction teams.
We are now on day 2 running and testing this home made SAN and it works fine. I spent time carefully choosing the parts. And it appeared that you could find good reliable pieces for very low price. Really.
I think i’ll keep MetaLAN soft as i plan to setup 2 AVID workstations editing at the same time, updating the same project.
We’ll have them running by tomorrow.
I’ll tell you how it works.
