    Hey Chrispy,
Soo.. What happens to the dpx file when it’s converted to quicktime? Is there loss? What about when you need to export?
    Thanks! Chris

    Gary,
Thanks so much for the good info.

Since our DPX files are usually captured off 35m by a Spirt or Northlight Scanner, they are files on our drives. Could I point to these files while I import and have proxies made?

How fast do you think I could make 320×240 proxies from these files?

Thanks so much and have a great weekend!

    Hey Gary,

I’m not editing, I’m comforming. Right now it seems to me that the conforming process is needlessly complex. It should be as easy as going “on-line”. I really don’t need to watch the movie in real time just make sure that all the edits match against the chase tape.

Right now we use systems called IQ’s by Quantel. They are very powerful but a pain to use. I would like to use FCP for smaller projects that were originally cut on FCP because it is so much easyer to put everything back together.. ie opticals… Speed changes…

I am also interested in the idea of using proxies.. I have used this in AAE and works really well. I am wondering if FCP has a simular function.

    Thanks so much, Chris

What about if your not using an external monitor? And just looking at the video in the viewer and don’t need anything close to realtime play back?

    Hey Guys,

Well it looks like DaVinci will take any old EDL.

If I export DPX files, won’t there be time code in the header info automaticly?

Will 2k play through FCP any better if the quality is set to lowest?

    Thanks, Chris

    Wow! Thanks Christian

Now I wonder if FCP can export an EDL that a DaVinci can read….

    Thanks so much, Chris

Are there any good websites to help explain all this? Any good books?

    Chris

Are there going to be interlacing issues if we Telecine 16mm(24fps) at 59.98?

And I guess if we do 59.98 we will not be able to do 5.1 audio huh?
