November 14, 2009 at 5:20 pm in reply to: Flicker and stutter in premiere Pro CS3 windows HELP!I’m having a constant stutter problem on my Mac Pro. Do you have any more insight on how to fix this? Rebooting doesn’t help.

I created another project and chose GENERAL > editing mode:P2 720p 60Hz DVCPROHD > Timebase: 29.97 fps. it still has a slight stutter every so often.
I’m not in contact with the cameraman and not sure if it was shot pN. Is there a way to check on this end?
This happens with footage shot from two different cameras.
When I open this footage in AVID it plays smooth but has a blurry scan-like line drifting down the screen if that helps.
BTW: The folks at the Apple store said DVCProHD is a Final Cut Pro codec and the only way to play it smoothly is through FCP.

Here is some more info on the problem: The line creeping down looks more like a wrinkle or a blurry line, not a hard line.
When I open the same footage in Adobe Premiere CS4 the video plays with an slight studder or kind of jumpy. Other footage (shot with different camera – 720p/60) played studdery as well in CS4.
I’ve transferred my footage to another drive and it still plays the same. Where should I begin to check? Maybe a hardware issue?
I have an Nvidea 8800GT graphics card.

My footage arrived and I transferred the P2 footage with little problem. I do have another issue that I’ll create a new post for in the forum: The camera pans have a very noticable jitter to them. If noticed it on other HD (nonP2) footage. Any clues on where to start looking?
The footage is DVCProHD 720p/60 and 720p/30.

November 4, 2009 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Quicktime Freezes giving an extra long timelineI archived and installed. I guess I should do an erase and install. I hope I’m correct in my thinking that it is a quicktime issue. I’m guessing that because it is creating an extra long timeline to old clips that used to play just fine.
Are there any concerns about doing an erase and install that I should be aware of? The word “erase” always scares me.
Thanks!

November 4, 2009 at 3:58 am in reply to: Quicktime Freezes giving an extra long timelineI reinstalled my operating system but had no luck. The clips would either freeze or be a white frame while the timeline indicator continued to run. It seems that the clips are playing in their entirety but a LOT of time is being added to the end of the clip.
These clips were originally brought in on a Firestore 100 if that makes any difference. I still think it is Quicktime because old .movs that used to be fine are acting in this strange way. I am trying to determine if these effected clips are ones that were captured over a long duration and the Firestore broke into clips- and somehow making the Quicktime read an extra long timeline instead of the 2 minute clip that it is supposed to be.
They play this way in Quicktime and in Premiere CS4.
Has anyone ever seen this or know what I should look for next?

I forgot to mention that going to SD widescreen is fine. I don’t need to keep it HD.
So, do I need to convert my HD sequence into a SD project before I can export to tape?
Thanks!

The footage came to me via hard drive – no tapes. It was recorded onto a Firestore FS100. I then copied all the footage to my hard drive.
What can I use to transcode?
I’ll look into getting the Pro version of Final Cut. I also have Avid Media Composer 3.0 on the same computer and Premiere Pro at work if there is a work around using those. I’m trying to get the footage to work with the Avid in the meantime. I went with FCE because the Firestore FS100 folks said that the format it was recorded in was native to final cut. I took a guess that I needed a DVCProHd codec to get the clip to play in a quicktime viewer – which does work – I just can’t match my clip properties and timeline properties. Is Quicktime Pro a good way to export the clips into another form or is there a much easier way?
Thanks again! I really need the advice.

Seeing that Final Cut Express does not support the format that I was given (720/60p)- what are my options to convert it into a usable form?
The final outcome of the edit session will be a widescreen SD dvd.
Thanks!

Thanks!
I’m hoping we can talk the boss into buying a used beta SP camera. That way if the son-in-law decides that shooting is not for him we can still use it with our normal cameraman.
In the past I’ve seen problems with tapes shot with an XL-1 playing in Sony decks. Any problems with the newer XL-H1s or XL-2s. I’ll need to purcahse a good DV deck if this goes through. Any advice on decks would be great.
No, I’m not in LA. We are in Birmingham, AL. We do mostly commercials / broadcast stuff.
Thanks again for all the input.
