My rugged drive lasted three months before deciding to unmount randomly after about 15 minutes of use. I think these products are horrible. I’ve got more than 50 LaCie hard drives, and at least a dozen are suspect. I’ve also bought more than 20 G-Tech drives and NEVER had a single problem with any of them, including a 7200-rpm special bought from Melrose Mac in 2005 that has been to four continents in jungles and arctic blizzards and is my portable drive of choice, not having missed a beat in five “rugged” years.

    Here’s another bozo’s two cents:

Do NOT wait for any intel dreamchip B.S., and buy your hardware and software now, all at once and don’t try to buy stuff in bits and pieces. If you’re ready to actually edit, of course.

What happens if I bring a signal via firewire out of a DVD recorder deck into FCP? Do I have to use a third-party conversion of some kind? Could I stream the signal thru a camcorder?
