Thanks for all that. Using FCP7 seems like a cop out as Im doing this to test FCPX workflows to see how capable it is.
Resolve doesn’t like the DV format and neither does FCPX – I Transcoded using compressor and FCPX was happy but wouldnt see the audio because I left audio pass thru on.
Ive got the files in now (all 1500 of em). Ill be Interested to see how resolve deals with them. I was hoping to be able to get them into Logic pro for a bit of a dub but for some strange reason that isn’t possible and Apple are still buggering around with LogicX. Automatic Duck has ceased to work with FCPX so…
My initial opinion is that FCPX isn’t quite as Robust as Apple seem to claim.
Annoying isn’t it?

No it hasn’t – everything is still dv and I’m not getting an option to transcode on import. I wonder if it’s the same issue that Resolve seems to be having…

Ok gone further with this now….
I have a Yamaha Desk with AES connected to the AES D-dub on the Multibridge.
The Multibridge is in/out connected to the Decklink
Audio is playing back from the Decklink via the multi bridge and the AES into and out of the desk
I cannot get audio into the decklink (Via the SDI – not the breakout cable)

I havent used x on a project yet – I got too frustrated with the lack of pro broadcast features – it has some great things – the keyer, the grading and the xml transfer of grades to resolve – all good pro features. But if we are really to export files (which is fine) then all the more reason to sort out the track issues .If I playout to quicktime for delivery, the broadcaster will still require discreet 5.1, m an e and audio stems .
So the file based thing still wont work!Hi neil – lets speak soon!

Relax – The more software you are fluent with the more appeal.
I started on Film – then Tape – then Media Composer – then FCP now FC X – First and foremost your an editor – a story teller and you can tell stories with all the above. FCX shortcomings are not with its story telling abilities but with its finishing and delivery abilities which are rapidly changing anyway. I just did a short corporate foe a friend and was quite impressed with FCX. I have NO intention of trying to use it to deliver to a network until the Networks the programmes I deliver for… (BBC, ITV, C4, Discovery, Nat Geo) take tapeless deliveries, and I can lay back the audio in discreet tracks.

I agree with everything here – FCP X is rubbish but the point is it has the potential to be brilliant is Apple sort out a couple of the obvious interface screw ups. As a powerful piece of core software that we can use as a platform for the amazing plugins (has anyone looked at what baselight is proposing? With 64bit – background rendering it blows buggy color clean out of the water and I’m a big color fan)
Media management plugins are in the pipeline and both Blackmagic and AJA supply free log and Capture / Edit to tape software that’s better than the old FCP 7 ones (they really needed an upgrade lets face it)
Just sort out the audio track/magnetic timeline debacle…please
