  • [Jeremy Garchow] “And the undermining of X editors continues.”

Pay no attention, Jeremy. After just coming off a Premiere job, I can see it’s just fear and jealousy…

[Bret Williams] “It’s almost as odd as if you add a drop shadow in FCP X, then drag it all around for a bit like you’re trying to decide the best location and then hit undo. FCP X animates all your dragging about in reverse. “

Not sure what this has to do with a Premier bug at all, but thanks for the info. Never noticed it.

Interesting. It’s about a kick-ass machine as you can buy. I will keep digging. Not stopping me from doing the work, but very curious to watch.

  • In addition to what has been said…and what I teach my students who are new to X and editing in general…

The first thing we all want to do is start cutting. You spent so much time shooting, you just want to import the footage and start cutting. However, organization is critical. As boring as it is, go through ALL the footage and rate it, keyword it, and “event it”. It can be boring to tears but it’s critical to getting the best out of your footage. It will take you a long time, but do it. I can’t stress this enough. It might take you a month, but do it.

    Good luck!

  • My apologies to the OP and Herb. My comments and posts were taking this thread off course and I have removed them. “Play on”, folks.

I like the term “simplistic” over both so you’re right Mileage Does Vary. I’m not being confrontational here. I really disliked the interface. It felt designed for simplicity at the expense of functionality. I’m sure that’s only intended not to scare off new editors but it pushed all my “inelegance” buttons.”

At first, I agreed with you too. But once I dug into the software and realized that all the power I was used to and more was in there, simplicity became elegance. And being a teacher of new editors, you are right there as well. They learn so damn quickly it’s amazing. Apple did something very right with this software.

    …and you’ll stick with Premiere, I am reckoning? 😉

[James Ewart] “FCPX is a “better” designed interface for my money. Radically different.”

I agree with you James. I like the term “elegant” over simple. Others mileage may vary.
