I’ve not called Adobe back, but I’ve decided that the guy must have been talking about Photoshop instead of After Effects. The Adobe website seems to indicate that Photoshop CS4 will not work on a G4 or earlier.

OK, Save as Project did a nice job of saving all of the resources. In this case, just that one HDRI texture map.
When I invoke the NET render, I still get an error that it cannot load the texture. Also says something about a out of memory error. (I’m not at work right now so I cannot confirm)
The project renders fine in Cinema 4D 10.5. I’m not sure what I’m missing in getting the network rendering going.

I have the RocketRaid 3522. I went with the iAge case and populated it with 8 500GB Seagate 7200.11 drives. I went with RAID 6 and let the block size at 64k. I’ve not had the problems you’ve described.
I thought about experimenting with the block size, but I never got back to that.

I’m a do-it-yourselfer type. I’ve hacked with Apple, PC and even Amiga systems over the years. It’s not that I’m afraid of putting a after-market drive in the G5, it’s just that if I want to do my regular disk burning, I know the Apple drive works. I have a MDD G4 at work that I put a TDK drive into. The Mac OS (classic) didn’t care for it, but Toast was OK. It had the two drive bays so it wasn’t a big problem.
Apple only? The first “Mac” I bought was a Power Computing system. It never liked the PCI cards I put into it. My Miro DC30 was a problem until I bought a Blue and White G3.

The G5 has only the single optical bay, and it seems that there are more and more SATA interface drives and fewer and fewer PATA ones. I would rather leave a PCIe slot open for my future video card purchase (Thinking Decklink HD Extreme) rather than have it taken up with a card just to get an extra SATA port.
I also don’t want to remove the Apple drive from the system. I’ve done that with other systems I’ve had and it sometimes causes MacOSX to not want to burn disks. Perhaps MacOS isn’t as petulant about not seeing an Apple drive as it once was?

IS there a Blu-Ray drive that would work in the internal bay of a Quad G5? Perhaps I’m better off getting an external FW-800 model?

I use a Intuos 2 18″x12″ tablet for two 24″ widescreen LCD monitors. I’ll sell you the Intuos 2 so I can gat an Intous 3. 🙂
