I know you’re one of the apple certified apologists on this forum, and I was half tempted to just ignore this, but since you asked.
Not even considering the substantial investment in apple hardware, I paid $1,300 for a piece of software. Besides the software itself, part of what I’m paying for is service, support and communication.
An example is FCS3 was $999 for new users or $299 for previous FCS owners. Now that option to purchase that upgrade has been removed without warning.
Something else I paid for. The Pro Aps update has been removed from the apple web site, again without notice.
Another thing I paid for. FCS was advertised as a professional level product. Professional companies don’t discontinue products without proper notice.
I have worked in broadcast TV since ’81. In that time I have seen plenty of hardware discontinued. With the exception of companies that just went broke, I have never seen something like this happen. It is just not acceptable. GVG, Ampex, CMX , Sony and companies at that level would usually notify customers of discontinuance of production and/or support well in advance of the actual event. And discontinued products were still supported for quite some time. And when that time was up, advance notice was given. Apples cloak and dagger methods are far, far from professional. When did having to rely on rumor sites for information become acceptable?
The kool-aid drinking fanboys need to watch ‘The Dog Whisperer’ with Ceasar Millan. They would learn that when you reward bad behavior, you just get more of it. You may be as giddy as a school girl on prom night right now, but you need to look at apples past behavior. Because if you do that, you will see your what the future relationship is going to be like. They dumped Shake, Final Cut Server, Xserve, Final Cut Express, and of course Final Cut Studio without warning. They drug their feet on updates and kept the customers in the dark.
What makes you think you will be treated any differently? Because you spent a whopping $300 on an ap that apple will now suddenly start diligently updating X every six months and keeping the users in the loop?
In your dreams.
If past performance is a predictor of the future, I hope you love what you have now, and are not counting on some nebulous future update they may never come.Scott Sheriff

FYI, there are a bunch of free plugins for 6-7 for meters. Bigger, analog, digital, lots of different flavors.

People are already using it for their creations while veterans are griping. Hey, get to work, boys! The newbies are coming!”
Whats the point? This is now a hobby like scrapbooking or really more like being an amateur musician. So a bunch of DSLR shooters are going to run with X and make some YT videos.
Wow, should I be impressed, or what? How much money is there in that? And so what if there is a forum for X techniques? It doesn’t give iMovie Pro any more cred. Guess what? There’s also a forum for low/no pay jobs.
The FCP market is already over-saturated as it stands today. And when you consider that the potential number of X licenses is much higher that FCP, there is going to be a very, very diluted market. So those that are bragging that they are able to eke out a living doing this type of work will soon have double or triple the current level of competition.
How and why would you start a production company specializing in iMovie Pro? Who exactly is your market? Someone that can’t afford to buy their own $300 piece of software? Well if they can’t afford that, or a thousand dollar DSLR, it’s a pretty good assumption that they don’t have enough budget to pay someone else to do it for them. When there are 5 thousand guys in every major metropolitan town with the exact same gear, exact same software, doing the exact same thing, what to do think day rates are going to be?
If your goal is to be a YT hobbyist that is one thing. If your goal is to create a job for yourself and earn a living wage, that is an entirely different game. And you clearly don’t understand the rules of that game.
You know who is going to make money on this? Apple, not you. Because they know they have a huge kool-aid drinking fan base that believes all that buzz word laced marketing hype and will spend huge money without putting together a business plan.
The naiveté of posts like yours give me quite a chuckle. This is the same mentality behind the people that spend half their paycheck every week at Guitar Center so they can go earn twenty dollars and a couple of beer coupons playing at some dive bar a couple of times a month.

I’m running an octo core with SL and FCS2.
I stopped updating the OS at 10.6.2 because the next version (I think it was 6.4) broke everything to do with mpeg2. No audio from DVDSP, DVD player, or even MPEGstreamclip. So I had to roll back.
This has happened to others, but not everyone. Before the roll back I tried to reinstall the mpeg2 component, and do other suggested fixes that worked for a few others but the only thing that worked is the roll back. Which is fine because I was doing the update just for the sake of keeping up. I wasn’t having any issues.
The lesson here is whenever you make a major change, always have an escape plan.Scott Sheriff
