I just wear my skiing/boarding gear. It’s warm waterproof, and is designed to allow a lot of freedom of movement. Layers is the way to go, avoid these pillow sewn down or polyfill ‘puffy’ type fashion outwear that you find at stores like “young army” (use your imagination). I like Columbia stuff because of it’s versatility (layers), and durability. but there are other good brands. If you don’t live where ski clothing is sold locally, try REI.

I use TimeSlice. There is also a time tracking function in Quickbooks.

Do what is necessary to get the shot. Use the gain, that is what it is there for. You don’t even know what gain grain is until you push a tube camera to +9!

Lot’s of cold WX shooting in Colorado ski country. We use mittens designed for hunting that are really a mitten over a half finger glove that folds back to allow finger access. Any good hunting store Bass Pro, Cabellas, etc should have these. Also check places that carry tactical shooting gear. Also you can wear silk full finger ‘glove liners’, which are just really snug fitting silk gloves that are like long-johns for your fingers. Once again hunting and outdoor shops will sell these. These won’t stop you from using the camera controls, and will limit bare skin exposure with the shooting gloves when you have them folded back to use your fingers.

Gaff tape those disposable thermal heat packs to your camera and lighting battery to keep it warm. These are sold anywhere that you find hunters or skier gear. Also army surplus stores usually have them. Warm batteries, are happy batteries. Also put these in your boots, gloves and they even make a vest with pockets for the heat packs.

I’ve had this happen, and it’s very frustrating when someone outside your area bids and wins, and then won’t agree to cancel. But if you’re buyer is outside your shipping region, you can eventually get the auction site to cancel it. It just takes a lot longer.
On the other hand, it sounds like a big sale that you would hate to lose, especially for gear that is depreciating at a logarithmic rate. If you continue with a sale outside of your selling/shipping area there won’t be any terms listed for who pays the shipping, customs, and the insurance. All important items since this sounds like a pricey item.
You can ship this fedex or ups and it’s not that big of a deal. Best bet is to use an expedited service even though it costs more.
Cancel the auction and send the buyer a notice that you’ll put it up on a buy it now for the price he paid with new terms to cover the costs of getting it there. That way it will be clearly spelled out who is paying for what.Scott Sheriff

Yes it is. You either need a capture card type device, or a HDV/DVdeck with external inputs that can convert on the fly and pass thru on FW for FCP Log and Capture.

Symmetry is just visually unappealing. Hence things like the rule of thirds, etc.

I wouldn’t mind having a 1″ like a Hitachi HR series, or a Sony 2000. Neither have a huge footprint, and are both pretty reliable if treated well.

I’ve got hours of archive stuff on various tape formats including quad, 1″, betaSP and SX, 3/4, D2, 16mm and HDV. In fact I still shoot HDV on tape. I don’t imagine I’m the only one.
