It will not open any other FCP version project. It will open legacy iMovie projects.

There are issues with folders being moved/renamed, and on other forums I have read reports of FCS being more unstable after installing X. If you want to try it out, use a partition or a separate drive.

You heard right. No tape I/O, no XML, no OMF, no multi-cam, no ability to open legacy projects, no way to share a project with another editor due to file structure, no way to assign tracks. Theres more, but that should give you an idea.

IMO, this is just spin used to placate those that are angry. I think Apple released what they intended to release, and had to play CYA. Why would they have told the VAR guys to send back unsold copies of FCS3 a week before the release of X, if they knew it had missing features, and would be leaving some in a lurch? I believe they had no intention of adding the ‘missing features’ because they have a new sales demographic that didn’t need them. Now there has been a big uproar, they are in scramble mode to try and incorporate these things to shut everyone up. How successful this will be remains to be seen. I’m not waiting around.

You get Final Cut X. Thats it. Motion costs 50 dollars, and Compressor costs 50 dollars. New Motion has a few new cool features, but can only open one project at a time and can’t use two monitors, which is a deal breaker. New Compressor, is really just the same old 32 bit Compresser with a couple of extra prosumer presets, and a bit of chrome on the UI.

Like you I have been editing since the 80’s. CMX, Sony, Paltex, early Avid, Media 100. When I looked for a personal NLE, I was agnostic, and had never owned a Mac and been a PC guy since the days of DOS and the XT. I had never seen FCS, and went to a VAR that had two systems set up side by side. One Avid, and one FCS. After a day of using them, they were pretty close, with each having a few things the other did better. In the end I chose FCP because for what I wanted to do, it gave the best bang for the buck. I think the Avid or PP is better argument is workflow specific, and the ‘better’ is subjective. And I have to say that the Mac Pro I use to edit on is the best machine I have ever owned. But the FCP X debacle, and the way Apple dumped Shake has soured me on doing business with Apple on any level.

I think you are misrepresenting, or at least overstating what David said.
The wiki definition of hypocrisy is not the same as the Websters definition, but it comes to have the same colloquial meaning, which is to say things that are critical of others, while doing some of those same things yourself. In the full context of the wiki, which you left out, it goes on to explain that this is not always about deception, but simply being human and unable to live up to ones own standards. Here is what it says:Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, ideals, thoughts, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have.[1] Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie[1].
Hypocrisy is not simply failing to practice those virtues that one preaches. Samuel Johnson made this point when he wrote about the misuse of the charge of “hypocrisy” in Rambler No. 14:
Nothing is more unjust, however common, than to charge with hypocrisy him that expresses zeal for those virtues which he neglects to practice; since he may be sincerely convinced of the advantages of conquering his passions, without having yet obtained the victory, as a man may be confident of the advantages of a voyage, or a journey, without having courage or industry to undertake it, and may honestly recommend to others, those attempts which he neglects himself.[2]
Thus, an alcoholic’s advocating temperance, for example, would not be considered an act of hypocrisy as long as the alcoholic made no pretense of constant sobriety.
Here is the Webster definition:

: an act or instance of hypocrisyI’m not sure why you chose to use wiki as your source, when the Webster definition is as easy to find, and a lot more concise. Either way, I would consider Webster’s (or Oxford) definition as the true definition. And even in reading the wiki definition in it’s entirety, it is pretty clear that the use of hypocrite, is not the same as being called a liar, and that hypocrisy often involves self-deception.
And in going back and reading David’s post:
“The very loudest among them, specifically Bill Davis and Steve Conner, have shown themselves to be hypocrites of the highest order, who, when they can’t win the debate, are compelled to suggest that alternative points of view must head for the nearest exit.”
It seems very clear what he said, and what he meant. He did not use the word liar, nor any synonym. I see no assertion, or ‘read between the lines’ that he called anyone a liar, he simply used hypocrite colloquially.Scott Sheriff

Slightly OT, I have a JVC camera, and a BR-50 deck, and the manuals for both seem to be pretty well written, and not lacking any info, except the pixel mapping procedure. It’s my understanding this was left out because it is in the hidden service menu, and there are other settings in there that can render the camera useless.Scott Sheriff

That is one thing the DVD has going for it. There are so many places for failure in distributing video on a thumbdrive, on the users end that you have no control over. Everyone knows how to play a DVD, and they don’t require any technical knowledge. And there are players everywhere, even in the car these guys are being driven around in.
The other thing the DVD has going for it is surface area. Both on the disc, and the jacket. These are convenient places to put logo’s, additional info, etc, that a person can simply read, without ‘going to the web’. I have also seen operations that have a prohibition on thumb drives being used on the company system for security reasons. Since the DVD can’t be used to record anything once it is finalized, they are not a threat for data theft.

To put it another way, love of the product is not a prerequisite for participation.
I think the dissenters are doing a great public service by stopping the uninformed from wasting 300 dollars that they could use to by a real editing application. I love the part where you are talking about how all the forum leaders don’t use the software, and are discouraging others from using it, and how that is a unique situation. Maybe if you would take off the rose colored glasses, and look at that closer, it would become clear as to why that is.
And speaking of loving the program, well, love it all you want. Who is stopping you?
Although I wonder how much you actually know about it, since you seem to spend all of your time monitoring this forum, so you can jump on every post that isn’t a slobbering love affair with your beloved movie hero app. Your post is a perfect example of the proverbial “pot calling the kettle black”. Not only do you, and the glee club literally jump on every post you disagree with, but then you wrote this:

Did your OP contain any Final Cut discussion, or was it just you forcing your opinion on us? Or was it an attempt to stifle the opposition, by noting right off the top that the post contained “Some thought(sic) from an e-mail I have recently sent to Ronald Lindeboom“. Your OP wreaks of hypocrisy.
But you are not alone. There are a handful of ‘the usual suspects’ that we can count on for some ‘thumbs down’ anytime someone posts less than a five star review of movie hero, or to ‘thumb up’ your pontificating on how great movie hero is. I noticed it only took twenty minutes for someone from the glee club to post a thank you response to your OP. What are you guys emailing each other? You all act like self appointed, movie hero ‘mall cops’, that have taken it upon yourselves to try and keep these streets clear of any hooligans, who dare speak ill of the failed app. And your post sounds like a sad attempt to get you moved up from your self-appointed mall cop status, to something with a bit more cred. Who knows, maybe it will work. Maybe you can get Ron to give us all the ban-hammer and silence our criticism. So you and your little clique’ can all be the permanent forum leaders in your own little private Idaho.
The one thing I don’t understand is why don’t you spend all this effort getting up to speed on your new favorite toy. I mean really, if you love it so much, and it’s such a great, and deep app, and it’s getting you so much work, how do you find the time to police the streets?

Use Motion, you can add a logo to a roll in Motion.
Not sure why Motion is not an option since it is part of the Final Cut suite.
