I’m with Noah on your visual.
How about a dog scratching behind his ear, flicking the letters that spell out your name towards the camera.
That would be pretty easy to build. -
Stace,
You got that right! Took me a minute to figure it out.
4K doesn’t mean squat if you miss the shot waiting for FedEx to deliver your gear from the rental house. -
Thanks to all for the advice, and the reality check!
I guess the lack of professional in that comment caught me off guard.
I have seen plenty of criticism of gear/formats (how ’bout that crazy Cannon 7D thread the other day). Glad to see most folks have the common sense to keep it civil in such a public forum. -
Thanks Grinner & Mike,
Ah, yes, but my problem is that I have already accepted the invite, which initially came directly from the User Group (which I’m a member of) via their email. You know in a down economy, not all of us are as busy as we would like to be. So thought this might be a good networking opportunity.
The reason I’m being so coy about the details is that the coordinator for the UG is a very well known person, and a frequent contributor on several Cow forums. I only found out this after accepting the UG email request. At first that made it seem even more beneficial, until the posting in the RED Camera forum was brought to my attention. So I guess my choices are:
1. Shut up and go. Act like it’s no big deal.
2. Cancel, because of a ‘job’ that suddenly came up.
3. Confront this person with the posting, citing it as the reason your canceling.
4. Go, your over-reacting to the posting.
5. Stay home because people that choose to shoot HDV are schmucks, and who cares what they think.I already know what I’m leaning towards, but it’s always good to get a second opinion/reality check from your peers.

I’m pretty sure that’s the CrumplePop ‘Shrink Ray’ plugin.
It’s pretty easy to use, but your footage will look more like a miniature if shot from a higher than normal angle. It also helps enhance the Force Perspective effect to have a lamppost in the FG.https://www.crumplepop.com/?page_id=19

I love the new gear.
But there are a lot of people that the new gear is a crutch for poor planning. In the old days the poor planners were exposed quite easy.I also crack up when people bash FC as a poor video compositing tool. Yeah, 99 layers that are all 1st gen quality is so limiting!

Yeah, no preread. No D-(anything) yet.
The dumb things people said, and tricks we played on them could fill a small book.
The kids don’t know how easy they have it. -
Mike,
What about checkerboard auto assembles? Even harder to explain.I once had a producer insist that I didn’t know what I was doing because (on 1″, way before pre-read) he only had an A reel and wanted to dissolve from a shot we just laid (on the record machine) to another shot on his A reel. So I tell him I’ll have to roll that shot off onto some dub stock to do that. “why?, I don’t want to loose a generation” “Just match frame, and dissolve from here (the record machine) to here” (A reel).
My answer “You can’t dissolve to the record machine, you have to have two sources for a dissolve”. This went on and on. Even to the point of telling me that “the guys over at XXXX do it all the time”. Implying that editors at one of the other affiliates knew what they were doing, and I didn’t. Also same guy’s TC’s he logged, were all wrong because they were actually counter numbers.
Funny now. Nightmare then. -
Been running FCP 6.06 on SL since the day it came out, on an oco-core Pro. Been flawless.
I think the secret is to do a clean install of the OS and pro aps, which isn’t a factor if SL is pre-installed.
