September 21, 2013 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Syncing audio problem

    To update my own thread..

Basically I found out whatever I drop first, either file, will sync up to the video fine.. the second file doesn’t… so I tried linking up all the audio, then linking to the video after. It worked on the first one, so hopefully that’s the issue.

If anyone knows why this is (a setting, etc.) please let me know. Thanks!

  • Thanks so much for the replies. Thank you Trish and Dennis, I appreciate it very much. I will email you shortly Dennis with that info.

    Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the quick response!

I thought of that too, but the problem is the DVD won’t even read on my mac (won’t show up at all) while in a PC it does.

  • Hey everybody thanks for the replies. I just ordered that book and will jump on it as soon as it comes. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

    Hey Kevin

Thanks for the info. Ideally I’d like to really see the peeling back and ripping off of the text’s “skin”, but I’m believing this to be more and more a 3D software project than an after effects one.. at least how I’m envisioning it with the detail. That being said I’d still like to try and make this as close as possible using AE. So I followed the steps you pointed out and I like where it’s heading. The issue I’m facing is now getting a more randomized ripping of the letters. So if I’m using the word “Guardians”, I’d like to have parts of the “S” go and the “G”, and have it slowly build up as the wind gets more powerful.

I’d also like to have the parts that rip off less chunky feeling, and more like paper, like the wisp away in the wind once there ripped off.

It may be that I’m getting tired right now but I know there’s a way to have that happen, just not sure how. If you already explained this I apologize.. need some sleep. haha

    Thanks
    Scott

May 23, 2012 at 5:11 pm in reply to: Eye color animation

I tracked the eye using mocha and brought it into AE. I have my eye footage layer, duplicated it, then copy/pasted that track data into the duplicated layer of the eye.

I precomposed the duplicated layer with the tracking data and then added an exposure, hue and saturation effect on it. I basically followed the “no stupid questions” tutorial on zombie eyes.

From there I’ve tried adding effects such as liquify, and every other to add some movent inside the color. I know I’m not doing it right….

    Awesome advice, thanks guys.

So assuming I chose a particular path, ie film and TV, how would you decide which specialty to pursue? Obviously I’d want to know which parts I excelled in and therefore would be best at, but do you find that out by taking classes? Dabbling in numerous programs?

I was looking at courses offered at Gnomon, they look great but it’s really expensive.

Thank you, I’ll check it out.

  • Hey Angelo,

    Thanks for the reply.

I guess the best way to describe it is that I want to be well versed in producing my own visual fx for films, commercials, etc. I’m not too knowledgeable on the difference between focusing on 3D vs more of things like Maya, AE, Nuke, etc. I guess what gives you more marketable skills to get a job?

I guess watching Andrew Kramer from Video Copilot work on fx and his ability to create great fx using all kinds of programs is where I want to be. So really I’m looking for the best trade school, or degree program that would offer me that.

I just don’t want to enroll in a school that’s not worth the money, and not going to teach me the skills necessary to be successful after I’m done. Obviously using the programs and experimenting with your own projects is great, but I really want to branch out and get some professional guidance.

So besides UCLA or USC, what other schools could offer me this?

    Thanks again for the help
    Scott
