[John Rofrano] “I’m not sure why anyone would pay for a suite and then not install all the parts.”

ha, you’re right to ask, I’ll tell you exactly why:

I went to purchase a copy of Movie Studio 12 (not the Suite) from Amazon, and they had it there for just $46.99 — and (oddly) Movie Studio Suite was just $2 more ($48.99) — so I figured I may as well get the Suite, even though I don’t immediately need the extras.

Also, I mostly work on a laptop with an SSD, and so space is a bit of an issue.

    🙂

  • Thanks again for all the help, hopefully last question…

I just realized that my video camera captures audio at 48KHz, and my audio software is set to 44KHz — is that a problem? I understand that I’ll essentially be “throwing away” the 48KHz track in the video and replacing it with the audio track — but it is “bad” for that audio to be 44KHz?

I can switch my audio to record at 48KHz, but I have it at 44KHz because that seems to be fairly standard for audio. It seems there is also 96KHz.

Is there a “right” way to juggle these settings?

  • Hi all, trying again…

If all I really need to do is align audio and video and export back out, is there any reason to get Vegas Pro 12 Edit ($399.95) rather than Movie Studio 11 ($44.95)?

btw, why are most of the Vegas apps at version 12, but just this one is 11?

  • Thanks so much!

So if I’m mostly interested in aligning separately recorded audio and video from something like a “home music performance” (eg, a single shot, one camera) — and if I use your “manually eyeball and align waveforms” approach, is there any reason not to get Movie Studio 11 ($44.95) vs. Vegas Pro 12 Edit ($399.95)?

Regarding for PluralEyes (thanks again, hadn’t heard of it) — so the idea there is that it would further automate what I’m trying to do? eg, I shoot the video and record the audio separately, drag the files into PluralEyes, and it figures out how to match them, and then I set in/out points and render a clip?

I had originally been expecting I could simply plug the line into my camera — but this darn AGC ruins the audio. So I’m looking for a solution that won’t make it feel like a chore (eg, if I’m filming my daughter for her grandparents, I don’t want it to wind up a big edit project, if you see what I mean — I want it to be quick and easy so I actually do it :).

Thanks again, I really appreciate the info.
