Why can’t Avid Xpress Pro be used for the cross platform NLE?

The Avid Pand and Zoom can load down your system. I just finished a documentary with a bunch of PZ stills in it. I had to break my film into 10 minute sequences and only have one open at a time. This was on a powerbook. I am sure that workstations would handle it better. nevertheless, it is a memory sucking effect and takes a long time to render at the highest quality. Be sure to work in Real Time and render at a higher quality. You can’t do any tilts with Avid’s PZ. Despite its shortcomings, it renders out some really good mooth effects.

My advice is to work with the Avid effect and put your money toward a program like After Effects or Boris Red for more advanced work.

Thanks. I compressed the file with Sorenson. It is now at just under 18mb now. Is that considered a proper size for streaming? Still to big? Much appreciation for any advice in this area as the interent seems to be the best medium for me to share my films.

The Avid 3D program doesn’t boast to be anything more than what it is. Most editors don’t need a robust 3D app but at times would like to bring a bit of 3D to their work. At least this is how the Avid rep tried to explain it to me.

Nevertheless, Avid is looking pretty weak next to the suite presented by Apple. I am an XPro user on the Mac. No support or R&D. With all the Studio rumor mongering, I was hoping for Avid to come out with a Studio product for the Mac. What I really wanted was a carbon AXP and good integration with Pro Tools. No dice…

In other words, Mojos now being used can continue to be used. No need for some type of HD upgrade. True?
