December 24, 2016 at 4:52 pm in reply to: Trade Production Services for Part Company OwnershipThe funny thing is that I did have a barter at her previous gym, but this this new one is only having fitness classes, no weights, so it has nothing to offer as far as barter goes.
And yes I can have my accountant go over things with her accountant, I imagine that is what people do when they invest in businesses, but I haven’t done it this way before.
Invest vs. retainer? I am going to approach several businesses that I have worked with before with this idea in order to get a steady stream of income. I want to create good partnerships with people I’ve worked with before that I see growth potential in.

They are freelancers, not employees. They invoice, you pay, they are responsible for their own taxes.

The business is constantly changing, thats the market of supply and demand. Change with it or perish.

I have a line item in my contracts that says that I will not knowingly violate copyright on any terms. Even if you have a contract that shifts liability to the client you can still be held liable. A contract that shifts the burden of an illegal act won’t stand up in court. Also, I respect property rights which includes the rights of content creators.

Take the money, hand over the files and walk away.

I like it. Making it easy to support the content creators is a good thing.

Waste of resources, your cost goes up, and who buys sports training DVD’s anymore? Have it available on-line so they can have instant access after paying for their key or subscription.
There are a few sites that you can aleady do this with, people pay for the content.

People HATE DRM, even Apple got rid of it in iTunes. For niche sports training videos… there is sooo much free stuff out there that making it harder for people to access your content by havin to have to pay for streaming video of it seems like a losing game.
Paid streaming video has it’s place, live events. But training videos? I don’t know. I could be wrong.

Perception of being “greedy”. I don’t think it’s greedy to want to get paid for your time.

Paying personel (yourself included) is part of the cost of production, include it.
