Ditto everything Pat is saying, and I’ll keep you in my prayers cuz it sounds like you’re going to get screwed on this. If you can be a choosy beggar and get away from this project, I would.

I agree that this workflow is far from perfect. Avid gets no love from me, I haven’t touched one in 10 years. But in this situation I’m just a producer, and our full staff is looking for a workflow solution. That’s why I’m curious about your Export product. If it can turn p2 into XDCam compatible files, and then we can read those converted files and write them to an xdcam disk, we will suddenly have a workflow where it’s piecemeal at best right now. We’ve invested in XDcam cameras and players, but our freelancer shoots p2 and we’re only going to be seeing more p2 as time goes by, so we need to figure out how to make both formats work for us.

We’re on avid systems, and I know less than very little about them. I do know that we are running into issues when we have to use the same P2 footage on multiple projects…something about Avid associating the P2 with the first project and then being a big headache on subsequent new projects.

That, and having XDCam in house, is why we’re looking to “convert” P2 to XD. Instead of logging and using P2, we would immediately convert it to XD, put it on an XDCam disc, and then log and use that converted XD footage.

That might be the perfect thing. Will there be a demo available for download? And can you shoot me an email when the new version is released next week?

Ok, thank you. Yeah, the time it all costs is big…this started as a curiosity, since I can just have the videographer do the editing, or bump it down to tape for me. But it’s cool that you guys are coming up with solutions for this format. I’ll still do some playing around and see what works.

    Thanks!

I’m somewhat familiar with P2CMS. How would I use it to export something that iMovie could use…proxy? I just dug through it’s help menu under export and came up empty.

I need to take the two of you to a large coffee – thanks very much! I’m normally a FCP guy, but haven’t run it at home for several years now, and this is a home-based project.

I’ll have more time to play with these solutions tonight. Thanks again!

Thanks guys! The price might be out of my range on this little project, but then again it might not be. I’ll check out the demo tonight.

Ok, thanks Shane. It was a curiosity, and now it’s satisfied 🙂
