I have done many iPhone and Tab demos using two techniques

The flash way – Made every screen manually in flash and animated it.

When client gave me too many of such demos (Android, Windows…) it became difficult to do them manually –

I used photoshop and used the screen in AE/ Premiere. To capture the actions I used Snagit.Default screen cams were too clumsy. You need to capture the actions using the less lossy codec. I used Snagit. After the footage is captures, all that zoom, tilt pan were done in After effects. AE does a good job of smoothing the pixels when you zoom deep.

3 ways to go about it –

Use stock Music – Boring, generic.

Use stock music cleverly – Use bangs and crescendos by editing the music. Much better. Sometimes great – greatness depends on your talent.

Use a musician to make it – Great. Greatness depends on the musician’s caliber.

I am not sure if you already have the permission to record from any source.

All hospital data are confidential material of the Hospital authorities. If the patient and the authorities don’t have objection to part with it data, you can take their consent to hire / borrow / purchase from them.

If you have the permissions –

The data is usually recorded in a media – Usually of high quality.

To record from the screen, there may at least be a composite out, a S video out. I have not seen a HDMI or SDI out yet on such equipment

Here is a situation. Often clients want us to make a video with some YouTube reference videos and other copyright audio tracks (which does not belong to them) for their internal consumption, may be to show it to a handful of their employees. They convince us that it is only for a bringing forth their point of-view to a handful of internal audience. Unfortunately, after the video is delivered they themselves put it up on the internet.

It makes us feel so guilty. We have decided not to work with material that genuinely does not belong to the client. No downloading of copyrighted material. It may mean to lose the client for ever. But at least we don’t lose ourselves!

Thanks Alex, for an elaborate response. All your solutions sound impressive. It am eager to first try the DIY NAS. I am not sure if plain TCPIP protocol is causing the latency. As you suggest iSCSI with a SAN management software may be the answer.

1. Why do you suggest 4 spindles? 2 x Raid 0 ?

That’s exactly we tried to test. Map drive letter on the other PC exactly as the local, and then load the premiere project across network. It would load all assets. (sometimes index or reconform them). Then when you play back it does not play as smoothly as it was in the local.

Both PCs hv similar config, lots of RAM and are Mercury playback enabled. Connected by Gigabit LAN (Netgear GS608 v2 switch)

If network is not the bottle neck, i would look at striping disks.

Thanks for your replies. This means MPE’s hardware renderer is not a ubiquitous technology that can make the most of any newer hardware or for that matter anything other than nVIDIA’s cuda.

I generally get a liability indemnity signed by my client because not only can we get into copyright infringement of brands unknowingly, we may get into trouble with shooting people of the organization, who may leave the organizations sooner or later and join a competitor.

The liability indemnity agreement protects me and my client.

Oh! Forgot to mention, I might think of FCP or Premiere as the NLE.

So you men to say whether Decklink or Shuttle, both use the same technology to move the mixed output channel data from NLE to the video card.

Don’t they help in decompressing multiple streams (MPEG2 or MJPEG) of data coming from the hard disk?
