I don’t know if this answers your question but I’ll give it a shot.

If you have a text layer above a video layer you can create a track matte so the video will only show through the text. This is achieved by going to the “modes” column in the timeline and clicking on the trackmatte button (it will be next to the video layer not the text) and selecting alpha from the drop down box.

This only works if you have your text layer ordered above your video layer. Hopefully this is along the lines of what you wanted.

Make sure the layer that has the mask you want to move… is above the layer you are using the motion tracking controls on. Click on “track motion” in the “tracker controls” menu. Set up your tracking point(s) and then hit the > button to analyze forward. After you are satisfied with the tracking hit the “apply” button. Select how you want the tracker info applied (x and y axis ect.) and hit “ok”.

This will automatically apply the tracker info to the above layer (hopefully your mask layer).

  • You can make any video file constrain itself to fit the entire comp window by making sure the video is selected in the timeline and hitting ctrl+alt+f. However, it will not keep the current aspect ratio (dimensions in relation to eachother) the same so your footage will most likely look skewed.

If you want to make a video file larger but don’t want to lose it’s aspect ratio, scale up past 100% under the transform>scale twirldown menu. Just remember that whenever you scale up past 100% after effects is interpolating the extra information… i.e. a loss in quality from the original footage.

    peace,
    Michael
