January 8, 2014 at 4:51 pm in reply to: youtube url changes when I reload an updated videoYep. Vimeo will let you replace the file and maintain the URL. YouTube will not. At my work we use vzarr.com. It has lots of options for how you distribute and manage your media, including replacing files without futzing with the URL.

Some nice shots and lighting.
The one thing that stands out for me after a first, cursory viewing, is audio.
First, I think the music track is a little distracting – a lot going on. Maybe something little smoother and slower? (Matter of opinion, I suppose).
Second – It sounds like all the interview dialog is coming out of the right channel only. You need to center-pan the audio so it’s coming through both speakers, otherwise it’s just disconcerting. This is done different ways depending on your editing program. You could also just export it so the audio is Mono instead of Stereo, but there is a slight hiss in the audio as well. This could be from the channel that didn’t get a signal while recording. Filling both channels with the mic’s signal will help with that a lot. If it’s in both channels, then a little noise reduction or EQing should go a long way to help that.

Updated from 10.0.9. Haven’t tired it on a different drive. I did just re-import the AVCHD files from the SD card into a new event and they work just fine in that. So I’m thinking it’s either something Premiere did with the files or something that 7 to X did to them.
For now, I’ll just have to edit these older projects on a trial version of Premiere and leave FCPX out of it.

OK … some weirdness …
I had one project that was imported into FCPx from Adobe Premiere CS6 via 7 to X. That project had a dozen or so .mts files from a Panasonic Ag-AC160. Those clips weren’t showing up at all, despite reimporting them from the original AVCHD file structure, and despite FCP 10.1 supposedly being able to edit those files natively. AFTER I would review that project, I would go to another project, then this problem would occur. I deleted that project and all reference files from the library and everything seems to be a go. (Fingers crossed).
How odd is that?

Name it.
That particular file is from a JVC XDCAM EX, but it’s the same with any Pro Res, H.264 or what have you.

Update:
It looks like when I got to Reveal in Finder, I can actually drag and drop the files from the Transcoded Media folder into the Browser window. An inelegant solution, I think, but will work for now.
Still, what is going on, and am I doing something wrong?

Almost like the Facebook model of “updates” – “We thought these things would be cool to do. You might like them. Maybe some of them will be something you need. Stuff you REALLY want? Meh. Boring.”
