I was adding some other shots into the sequence when I realized that it wasn’t updating in the After Effects comp. However, if it’s impossible for it to work this way I’ll just have to rethink my system of working.

I did find the solution. I simply started a new account on my mac book pro and tried to open Premiere from there. It works great now in the new account. I hope that this easy solution works for you as well.
