  • As far as I can tell you’re out the software at this point. I did not contact Apple regarding the situation, but I have seen a few forums where people aren’t getting responses. My guess is if enough people complain, Apple will add 10.0.9 back.

I ended up pulling an old version of FCPX 10.0.9 off of a hard drive and copying it over. Keep in mind FCPX as far as I can tell is a self-contained app. So you simply copy it out of Applications and you’re running.

But if you don’t have a place to copy an old version from, you appeared to be screwed as of today.

  • 10.1 is the only FCPX software on the App Store as far as I can tell. For example, if you have FCPX 10.0 and want to upgrade, it’s 10.1, or you don’t upgrade. You can’t pick and choose 10.0.9 10.0.8 instead. So if your Mac is old and you cannot put Mavericks on your machine and you have FCPX 10.0.3, you will never be able to upgrade to 10.0.9 via the App Store. If your hard drive goes down on an old machine, and you loose FCPX 10.0.9, you won’t be able to get it back via the App Store because only 10.1 is available.

Luckily I ended up copying an old version over from another hard drive. I simply copied the application and that was it. Works flawlessly.

FCPX 10.1 requires Mavericks and 4GB of ram

  • Appreciate the advice, but I think you missed the bulk of my post. I cannot download 10.1 from the App Store.

I brought it into Compressor and switched up the geometry and it output 720×486. I was a little unsure on the pixel aspect so I went with the NTSC CCIR 601/DV.

I’m not doubting that the codec is specced to 720×480, however the stadium is calling for 720×486. Therfore I was worried the clip wouldn’t look right if I went with 720×480.

  • I zapped the p-ram and it worked. To quote George Costanza – “I’m back baby!”

The beach ball was happening as soon as I clicked the radio button. Only a couple of projects were loaded.
So I guess the answer was to upgrade, restart, and zap pram. Not in that order.

It’s been a week and I started getting the beach ball again, tried what I recommended above and it didn’t work! What did work is restarting, switching to a tiny project , changing proxy, then opening back up the large project. I didn’t realize that switching to proxy is a global function.

Been there about 15 times, and restarted my machine. I have plenty of HD space as well. Seems as though this is happening in all of my FCPX projects now. I am going to upgrade to 10.8 and hope that I can enjoy my weekend.

Thanks for the explanation Dave, helped me in 2013! In case you’re slow like me, here’s a picture (5.5) to help.

  • Ryan,
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately I do need CSS. I guess I wasn’t 100% sure that checking the box was the same thing as flagging the DVD.

My plan was to check the box for CSS, export to a DDP 2.0, put on a hard drive, and ship the master. Would I need to put on a DVD in UDF? Or was that only because your replicator called for it? There are only 2 or 3 replication plants in the USA, so chances are we are using the same spot. Mine uses Eclipse as well.

  • Hey Ryan,
Let me start by saying thanks, because this thread is saving me a ton of time and headaches. The sad thing is CSS is still alive in 2013.

My question is about the process of creating the CSS flagging in DVDSP. In the inspector under the Region/Copyright tab there is a Copyright Management option. Do I need to do the following…

Wow, that’s hilarious. I was kind of wondering why you said AE. I misunderstood 🙂 I have been racking my brain thinking I was crazy for not figuring this out. I’m wondering why in the world is this guy using After Effects? I will pick up After Edit.
