It’s a brand new version. Thanks. By the way, AVID has sent me a dongle updater software. I’m wondering if the old version of AVID I had on my computer is messing up the dongle software. Hopefully this will fix it. Thanks.

Carl,
Because it’s an academic version, I don’t think they offer support over the phone. I tried calling them and when I entered my system ID, the automated voice told me my service has expired.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,

Excellent! Thanks for all the great info. I’m going to look into all those programs. At this point, I may simply purchase the Avid Xpress Pro software and then build from there. I really appreciate all the great input though.

How important or useful is that third party software? Thanks so much.

Any specific nvidia cards you would recommend? Thanks very much.

I actually have many different layers animated using keyframes and zaxwerks 3D. If I leave the background blank, meaning no solid color in the background and I render the timeline out as an animation, will I then be able to lay that animation over video in an editing program and see the video where the blank background once was? I may just try that and see, but does what I’m saying make sense. Thank you very much for your help and your patience.

The reason I don’t think the square mask won’t work is that at one point, a graphic flies across the entire screen. Thus, I would like, if possible, to bring the animation into my editing program and have the letter box and graphics animate over my video. Again, thanks so much.

For example, I have created some letterbox graphics, thin strips that line the top and bottom of the screen. I want to output the letterbox so that I can bring it into an editing program and lay it over video. What I meant by the black layer is the space between the upper and lower graphic strips that form the letterbox. Right now, they are only a black solid. That black solid is where I hope to see the video once I bring it into an editing program. So, how do I make that black solid layer transparant? Does that make sense? Thanks again.

Okay, your instruction make a lot of sense. But I have an even simpler question. What I have done in After Effects is create a letterbox underneath which I’d like to add video. Below the “letterbox” layers, I’ve created a solid that is just black — that’s where I want to the video to go. How do I specify that that black layer should be an alpha channel rather than a solid black. Thanks very much for your help.

Excellent! Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. I’m going to give it a shot.
