What kind of noise is it? Is it noise, or is it a hum?

Marco, your G5 will still smoke your MBP.

Most cheap DJ LED lights like that use PWM for dimming, so that pattern is brought to you by rolling shutter and flicker. The PWM “dims” the fixture by turning it on and off very quickly. Most humans don’t see it; cameras do.

It’s especially bad if you’re shooting 24p or PAL in a 60hz country, or 24p or NTSC in a 50hz country.

Stop down to f8 or f16 for a deeper DOF.

Or don’t shoot a doc on a DSLR.

    Hi Jeff,

Can you upload a sample? I get a little hiss and a distinct 1.1 KHz square wave on my HM700.

-5. For the DSLRs, always add sharpening in most if you need to. The image is already absurdly sharp due to line skipping, already.

October 7, 2010 at 10:42 pm in reply to: Panasonic releasing camera with Cannon lens option?

The camera has a Micro 4/3″ mount, which is easily adapted to PL, C, Nikon F, Canon FD, Canon EF, Olympus M, etc. Word so far is that it won’t be able to control Canon EOS lenses electronically, but pretty much anything manual should work wonderfully.

Look up “Highlight Tone Priority” in the user manual, page 209.

It’s sometimes useful, and I usually shoot with it on. Some of the color data in the rescued highlights is pretty useless, but if I roll it off in Color, I think it can produce a better image sometimes.
