As a long time linear editor with a long history of jog wheels, I can honestly tell you you do NOT need the jog wheel. JK and L keys are faster and more effecient. I am a fan of the coded keyboard though. I know most all the shortcuts, but it is easy on the eye and makes me more comfortable.

that is a great suggestion. I have the collection and use it almost every day. Oh yea how much commission do they pay (LOL). It should have the sounds you are looking for.

Some would say having full control over the production process is great, but you also need co-workers with more experience to learn and grow with. That being said, consider asking your current employer about the possiblity of making the position a full time position or adding benefits to your contract. Bottem line to most production companies is the quality of your work and your personality. Freelancing in other places can help build your network and give you more options. Join User groups like FCP and video production groups in your area. Research local production companies and find out who hire freelance production folks and make an initial contact.

Editors have always really been Preditors. Remember the old want ad’s for an editor “We don’t just want a button pusher”. The best editors have always been preditors.
As technology has gotten cheaper it is the industry that has changed. Good enough has become the norm. If you can run the software you are an editor, but I need graphics and a script to. Yea can you do that great. Ohhhhh we can’t afford to pay you more there is no money in the budget for that. Everyone wants more for less. The more we let ourselves get into that the worse the industry will get.
It is rare we find someone that can really do more than one job well. If you are that person make sure you get compensated for it. It is hard to get an employer to see your real value, but it is your job to sell it to them.

Someone will always do the job cheaper, what are you offering that they are not. Quality, personal service, faster turnaround.
In this day and age of cheap gear and cheap people to run it, there will always be someone that will so the job cheaper. You have to sell your strengths.Roy

So let me get this straight, editing is more then knowing how the software works. This could change everything, wait it already has.

I spent many a night recording and playing back videos from MTV trying to figure out how the did it!!! Besides the COW, try Video Co-Pilot great After Effects projects.

It really comes down to communication. If you are being paid to produce for a client then it is their project. You would need their permission to put your ad on their project. I would ask my client for permission.
