it’s tres tres strange, my timeline is fine when I open up the media is offline and the rander files are online if you like as in I can scrub through it on my timeline, then if I reconnect my media the render files go offline, I guess this is understandable but somewhat annoying that it is there when media is offline and not when I reconnect it :'( ocht I’m sure something will work out cheers for your help.

it looks like your computer is more than capable of handling the HDV material, I use DV compression as offline, so if your camera has an SD DV setting switch it to output that and then use DV as your compressor, however I’m sure HDV is similar or even less than DV……
In an ideal world I would use a separate drive for your footage like a lacie or a Graid if money is an issue, however we use xserve raid and one thing that we have found is that if we load our disks up to only having thirty gigs left we experience playback and editing problems, perhaps this is what you are experiencing…… try deleting anything you don’t need and see how you get on, one tell tale sign for us is when we are capturing and it freezes. However it looks like you said you already have this footage captured.
Unfortunatly I am unable to help you with a smaller screen size than 720 pal as I am unaware that this even exists in final cut pro set ups. offline RT might be something to look at it use jpeg compression I believe.

This would be rad if you could tell us what kind of computer you are using and what storage you are using, you see hdv is a small bandwidth by this I mean it shouldn’t really be much of a problem to edit it at all, perhaps there is something, outside of final cut which should be looked at….

sorry when I take the file into quicktime after I have encoded it using cleaner it has a datarate of 2910.35kbis/sec when I open up the movie info window……

thanks for your help 🙂
basically I set my movie up so it would be at 3.5 mbits / second, after I have encoded the movie I open it up in quicktime and when I look at the movie properties it says it has a datarate of
I have now taken my file into squeeze4 and it has made it look terribly blocky and it now shows the higher datarate but the picture looks worse as it is blocky it looks aliased or like there is an interlacing problem…

Cheers for all your responses guys 😀
Basically I got on the phone to apple and we discovered that one of my disks was busted so they shipped me a new one and it works like a charm now, normally if a disk fails you get an amber light on the offending disk and you would hear a constant warning tone and you would also see an amber light over your warning sign on the left of your xserve raid, none of this happened until day three when I got a solid blue light on the broken drive then today as I went to open up work I could hear the warning tone and then I got the amber lights etc. etc. the new drive arrived today :).
So watch out folks with an xserve raid if you get slwo performance and a solid blue light on one of the drives as you try to write to your raid then likely your drive will need replaced.
