So basically, if iDVD isn’t on the computer, the producer is going to have to buy something to author the DVDs? I’m sure first play is fine (pretty sure DVDs would be for screening and funding).

    Thanks.

I see. I’m actually the assistant editor, and I’m not sure about the system specs. An editor hasn’t been hired. Just getting the sense that it’s going to be a rented computer, and that the producer might want to make as few purchases as possible at this point.

How would you burn the DVD after using the new Compressor?

    Thank you.

Also, would it matter if it was going from a PC to a Mac?

    Thanks again.

    Great.

I thought I saw somewhere, though, that a new project should be started and that the bins should be brought into the new project? Is one way more safe? Pitfalls?

    Thank you!

What I mean is on the Paint effect layer, which yes is only one layer in the tracks, but in the Record monitor I made a rectangle shape over my video, then put a oval erase shape to reveal the first layer of video, then I feathered that. In order to edit any of these items I created, I have to click the arrow/Selection Tool then click in the Record monitor on one of those items – the rectangle or the oval – then it allows me to make changes. Is this right?

Hm. I think I got it. But what I needed to do was open it in Effect Editor then click the arrow / Selection Tool in there, then click the vignette or solid layer I created in the record monitor to edit the effect. Although, that seems a bit wonky and slow because, what if I have so many layers that it becomes difficult to select one in the record monitor, thus not being able to edit the Paint layers?

    Anything else I’m missing?

    Thank you.

  • I still can’t figure this one out. Is my question not clear enough?

    Thanks.

I see. All makes sense. Thanks for the note about AMA and sub-clipping the audio. I guess workflow preference would be the judgement of the editor.

    Thank you.

That’s good to know re: Import.

But what if there are a bunch of videos, for example, that were ripped offline and need to be converted for their audio? Would another Avid app be used? MPEG Streamclip? Just wondering what would be most efficient.

I only have MC on the system I’m practicing on.

    Thanks.

Thanks. So obvious now that I know where the button is… “Link Selection Toggle.” Three bars that look like they’re patched together.
