    Hi Jennifer,

Select each of the clips you want to synchronize and in the Inspector > Info tab enter a unique Camera Name for each clip. E.g. Camera 1, Camera 2, Camera 3 and Camera 4.

Then try to synchronize the clips. Does this work?

    Craig,

I think we all agree on the fact that keyframing in FCPX needs an overhaul. It’s not really unworkable but there are many little issues that can be irritating at least, and the “Keyframe Editor” is indeed not what it really should be. But I’m sure the many feedback reports we all have sent about keyframing will not go unnoticed (-:

I had never used this effect but just did a test. Everything works. Just do all your keyframing in the Inspector and don’t drag anything in the Viewer, much easier. I can keyframe the zoom amount and at the same time use the X and Y sliders to animate the position of the effect.

You don’t need to Show Video Animation to do any keyframing. Just use it if you need to move keyframes over time after you have created them in the Inspector.

  • We use AnnotationEdit for any type of CC extraction and subtitle creation.

    https://www.zeitanker.com/content/services/integration_services/import_captions_from_movies

You can extract CC from QT movies and many other formats, then you can export the subtitles with their corresponding time codes to a large variety of formats including DVDSP STL for DVDSP and since the latest update also to FCPXML for FCPX.

Have a look at the different videos on their website explaining how the tool works. It does have a 245 Euro price tag but it is by far the most professional tool for such jobs. You can always download a demo version.

    Don,

For me this method works, but it could be that you park your playhead on the wrong frame when you create your freeze frame. It’s easy to get on a wrong frame working on a bladed clip.

To avoid this you can use a different method that is just as fast and never fails for me:

    Move 1

Drop clip on the timeline, select Crop>Ken Burns, set Start on full frame and End on Person 1.
Check the animation and when the playhead stops at the end press ALT+F to extend a freeze frame.

    Move 2

Copy the Move 1 clip and paste it behind the freeze frame.
Select Crop>Ken Burns and press the Swap button to reverse the animation, then set End on Person 2.
Check the animation and when the playhead stops at the end press ALT+F to extend a freeze frame.

    Move 3

Copy the Move 2 clip and paste it behind the freeze frame.
Select Crop>Ken Burns and press the Swap button to reverse the animation, then set End on Person 3.
Check the animation and when the playhead stops at the end press ALT+F to extend a freeze frame.

    Move 4

Copy the Move 3 clip and paste it behind the freeze frame.
Select Crop>Ken Burns and press the Swap button to reverse the animation, then set End on Person 4.
Check the animation and when the playhead stops at the end press ALT+F to extend a freeze frame.

    Etc…

    Craig,

Have you updated to 10.0.9 yet? It might fix this little bug.

  • Michael,

Seeing that you have so much trouble getting your video into FCPX: what kind of Canon 5D has this footage been recorded with? I see only the 5D MK II is listed as a supported 5D camera for FCPX: https://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/cameras/en/index.html

As I said I don’t frequently work with DSLR video, but maybe this could explain all the issues you are having? In that case the workaround using FCP to create ProRes media would certainly be the best way to go.

As to relinking: if the import process has been interrupted I don’t think you will be able to relink any incomplete clips. IMO best you can do is to re-import the missing files and delete the incomplete clips.

July 30, 2013 at 6:28 am in reply to: render bug?

Yes it seems to be a bug. Never have seen the issue myself but I have read a few reports about this. Apparently the clips are rendered while the bar still shows. So if the clip plays correctly I would not worry about it and send a bug report to Apple.

It seems to happen mostly with retimed connected clips and retimed clips in a secondary storyline. This may have something to do with badly linked render files. If you have many of these issues one thing you could do is to delete your Project Render files and re-render.

July 29, 2013 at 5:38 pm in reply to: FCPX Crashing my entire OS CONSTANTLY

When you get complete system freezes there is a big chance that something is wrong with your system, and not necessarily with FCPX. Just a few thoughts:

Check your startup disk first. Do you have enough free space left on the drive? Also run Disk Warrior to check if the drive is still working as it should.

If your startup disk is okay next thing I would check is the drive on which your FCPX Projects and Events are stored. Same procedures: free space and drive check.

If you don’t have any problems with your drives create a new admin. user account on your system. Do not import any of the settings from the old account, just install and use FCP X from the new account. If this works without any further crashes you should do a clean OS re-install.

I did a few projects with 4K XAVC lately and like I said I have never had this issue. But yes, we always convert to ProRes.
