Good to hear deleting your preferences has solved your issue.
BTW: that video is quite old. In the meantime Apple has added an easier way to refresh your FCP X preferences:
Launch FCP X while holding the ALT+CMD keys pressed down. You will get a message asking if you want to delete your preferences. Just confirm and let FCP X open.

I feel your pain. PSB files should not be used in anything else than PS. Even Lightroom cannot open them.
As to opening from a backup that was created prior to importing the files: you don’t need to have FCP X open to do this. Quit FCP X with all Libraries closed, then go to the Final Cut Backups folder in Finder and double-click the Library backup file you want to open.

Some possible solutions, start with the first one.
1. Launch FCP X and restore the project from a backup that was made prior to importing these files.
2. Quit FCP X. Go into the Library package and see if there is a file called “CurrentVersion.fcpevent-journal” in any of the Event folders. If so, trash it and restart FCP X.
3. If the first two steps don’t solve the issue: quit FCPX, go into the Library package and trash the “CurrentVersion.flexolibrary” file at the root level of the package folder. Empty the trash and launch FCP X.

It’s a known bug with the latest version of X2Pro. We had the same issue, we downgraded to the older version and the problem immediately went away.

I’ve talked with people that run decent size facilities in LA and they used to have a direct line to a rep from the Pro Apps team but that ended after X came out.
To be fair, I have no problem whatsoever contacting people from the FCP X team directly and getting responses. And in one particular case there has been an update to FCP X that included a very specific little feature that was requested by a company I work with. So I have no complaints at all about Apple listening to my clients, and acting to it. Granted, I only work with big companies. But I felt I needed to set this straight to keep the discussion honest.

There are many FCP X houses you can visit in London. As Oliver said, you could try the BBC. If you are more into award-winning commercial and music video work, ask TRIM (trim editing London) if they can spare some time with your students. Or you can visit the Youtube post-house from Google in Soho, which is all FCP X. Contact me if you need more addresses: ronnycourtens@mac.com

I come here every day to read up on the latest blind speculations about FCP X. This can be a really funny forum sometimes (-:
Peter and I have talked briefly at IBC. He was a bit down because he got attacked personally by some moron on Twitter and FB. So he rightfully asked himself: what the hell am I doing all this for? FCP.co is a hugely successful platform and Peter runs this all with his own resources. He is not dependent on any big sponsors, and I think he prefers it that way so he can remain objective. I think he just needed some time to vent and to think. The FCP Expo at IBC has been very successful and seeing the flood of very positive reactions he received from so many people, I’m sure FCP.co will continue to be the number one resource for the Final Cut Pro community. More than ever before. Just a little patience, we have some really interesting FCP X stories that are eagerly waiting to be published.
