Me, I learned early on, Mark, that the organization seemed far more interested in hearing the side of the dues paying member than it ever cared about the consumer.

Over the years, I got cheated by a couple of companies that were members and they could have cared less.

I gave up on them many years ago. Long before the internet ever came along.

[Mark Suszko] “Well, except for the thin-skinned and immature ones, but they don’t last long here anyhow.”

Yes, they do not last long here at the COW. The thin-skinned learn to either suck it up and go on, or they find that in a community where hundreds of thousands are posting, they don’t get their way all of the time.

    No one does.

Not even those that are paying the bills.

  • Hi Bob,

There is my favorite book that I always put forth as the single most important book (in my opinion) for anyone doing business in the current world order of things. It is…

    1. Chaotics: The Business of Managing and Marketing in the Age of Turbulence Chaotics: The Business of Managing and Marketing in the Age of Turbulence

Chaotics is one of those books that when you read it, it is so current that few books are its equal. I have recommended it to some of the management and marketing heads of companies that I work with, and to a person, they have all thanked me and said what a profound read it was to them.

    Have fun, Bob.

Bummer, as a truly cranky curmudgeon — and as someone who likely won’t ever stop changing changing subject lines when it makes sense to (or I just feel like it — I doubt this phenomenon will ever change.

It’s been going on like this for the 15 years we’ve been building media communities. I don’t foresee anything changing soon. But who knows, perhaps we’ll see a slow gradual change that takes place over the next 15 years or so. There is always hope.
