I ran into this same problem when dealing with the PDF export as I am on an Apple and there appears to be issues when working with PDF exports from a Mac.
I tried both the Press presets and downgrading to the Acrobat 4 settings as was suggested here by Alex. It didn’t work for me. (Not picking on Alex, I just didn’t get to the bottom of the issue(s) present.)
The solution that I came up with was to export as full Postscript files and not as PDFs. As my destination was a 300dpi magazine, I ripped the files at 1000dpi so that my rasterized text (when dropped at the printer back to 300dpi) would be crisp and readable. This meant bigger files to upload and an extra step but it worked and ended days of frustration.
I hope you get to the bottom of your issues and if you find the answer to the PDF issue you are encountering, please let me know.

Since it does involve expressions, it needs text, explaining expressions via a video is okay but in the end, you are going to be right back to good ol’ text and so…

Sorenson for PCs, eh, Steven? I was thinking of Sorenson but wasn’t aware that it ran on PCs, so I didn’t want to suggest a tool that wasn’t on the platform in question. Thanks for the lesson, Mighty One. ;o)
Out of curiosity, do you know how Sorenson for Windows and Canopus Procoder compare? I ask so that I can understand where they each sit in the Windows food chain.

Nothing else comes to mind when reading this, so I thought I’d suggest that if you know someone who has Canopus Procoder that you might give them a clip to try encoding and see if that works. If it does, it may be something worth adding to your kit.
I wish I had a better suggestion but that’s all that comes to mind just crawling out of bed, before the wondrous caffeine has had its chance to work.

Respectfully said, I think that you may be reading more into people’s words than what you seem to think they are saying, Michael.
I don’t think that people are suggesting fixed prices set in stone that do not allow for any kind of flexibility. What I think the point is, if I am reading them correctly, is that by having fixed prices within certain parameters and limits, which a customer signs off on and acknowledges that they understand
