Hello Mark,
George would likely disagree with you and that is quite okay. I would agree with you on points and disagree on others.
I, for one, believe that the greatest name you can give your company is your own name and I have recommended many to do that over the years. I have had friends argue that “Post Production International” is a great name. I have told them many times that the only thing in their business that won’t change, is their own name. “You’ll likely be there until the doors close in most cases, so use your own name,” I like to recommend to them.
But that said, there is no way we could have named this site after either Kathlyn or me — or even Cowdog. (Though he’d argue that he’d make a great corporate moniker, doggone it!)
In the end, I would say that in most all cases, especially in ones such as we find ourselves in now working with lawyers to do all that we are legally responsible and compelled to do under the circumstances, we would always recommend that if at all possible, use your own name.
Your own name is the easiest to protect.
Best regards,
Ron Lindeboom

Charles,
I forgot to mention that my esteemed antagonist is indeed an accountant, and quite a good one at that from what I have learned over the years. So your argument regarding training costs is likely one that he’s already considered.
Please keep that in mind the next time you seek to insult a man.
Just so you know,

Charles,
I suspect that your comments came about due to wanting to somehow protect the COW following George’s comments in the thread “Protecting your name” above.
Still, I am going to warn you that we do not condone these kinds of personal attacks and ask you to “stand down” on this issue.
George has never been one to have a kind word for the COW or its management and we have come to expect that if anything has an adverse effect on either the COW or on us personally, George will be beating the drum for it. It is just the way that he is.
But calling the man an idiot is off-limits. While we may disagree with it, he is entitled to his opinion. Please respect that as it is a cornerstone of that which has made the COW what it is today.
Best regards,

[Todd at Fantastic Plastic] “If Kathlyn and Ron feel that their company name has been compromised (and I notice neither of them have complained about it on this thread), then by all means then they should seek relief.”
Let’s just say that our attorneys are and will continue to do our talking for us.
As Abraham Lincoln said long ago: “Just because you have silenced a man, does not mean that you have compromised him.”
Silent — but you can guess the rest,

Oooo, ooooo, pick me, pick me! I know … kinda. ;o)
If you are on a Mac, you can just hold down the option key and hit the number 8 key. That will give you the bullet.
If you are on a PC, you will have to use the utility thingie (I forget its name right at the moment) that allows you to see the extra characters within a font set and look for the bullet.

[Patrick Ortman] “The trick now is converting this client into someone who works WITH us, rather than someone who springs crazy on us at the last minute. Any tips for that?”
Yes, Patrick, there is indeed a way to accomplish this: You ask them to come here to the COW’s Business & Marketing forum and give their views on why they think this is a good way to work, and we will play Point/Counter-Point with them.

Hello Gunnar,
We would add them but only if there were hosts for the forums. Forums without hosts never survive in the COW and we have removed forums over the years that had so little activity that we removed them from our list of supported applications. We want our forums to be useful, not like some sites which boast 400 or more forums — of which only a handful or less have any measurable traffic at all. It is hard to build a community if no one is there.

I believe that the sea monkeys have already written the definitive guide to JavaScript for After Effects — it was done last May, wasn’t it, Aharon?
I also believe that the language was just a bit rough so the publishers rejected it. Ever the humanitarian, Aharon (realizing that you can’t reject sea monkeys like this without permanently scaring their little souls) is working with them to do volume two of his web compression guide, to be entitled “Javascript Killed the Video Star.”
Please keep that bottle of California wine away from Aharon as I heard that he tried to share a bottle with the sea monkeys I sent him and the poor things have been toasted all week. (There will be no end to the typos now!)

Yes, we found an old 60’s home study course laying around the office, the old Marvel Comics home study course on “Mind Reading: How to Impress Your Friends & Girls with Your New-found Abilities!” and since Aharon went through it, he has been nothing less than amazing. I’ve been so impressed, I was thinking of sending him my collection of sea monkeys also. They really do need a new home, they’ve been swimming upside down for a while and they kind of smell funny and the water’s getting all green and stuff…
