How did I know? I am an old progger/fusion music fan that loved Mahavishnu Orchestra and remember thinking that they had some of the best covers at the time. Loved your work.

Speaking of prog/fusion bands, I recently got to co-produce two of the most recent albums by Strawbs (you might remember them from their years on A&M with albums like “Bursting at the Seams” and “Hero & Heroine”). It was something I’ll never forget as they were one of my favorite 70s bands.

    Have fun, Chris.

Our mechanism does not push old threads back to the top when someone adds a post to an old thread. If you wish to see things chronologically, then you will have to switch to the interface “Show Posts By Date.” The default in the pulldown menu — found below the host pictures on any of our forums — is set to the “Show Posts by Thread.”

One of the newer players (though not all that new) is Microsoft’s Silverlight. There have been a number of companies opting to use Silverlight over either Flash or Quicktime, with Netflix and CBS Sports being two of these companies.

You may want to look into it, Mike, as a possible consideration for your situation.

[Chris Poisson] “Well heck, I gotta be around the same age as Bogie, and I never heard of ADR.”

Yeah, but you painted Mahavishnu album covers and so we forgive you.

    🙂

Even the ADR guys forgive you because while they can do what they do, they didn’t get to do what you did.

It is all a balance, Grasshopper.

    Om, om on the range…

If you posted it to the “Events” section, Nick — which you will find linked in the bright orange navigation bar — it would get a LOT more eyeballs than putting this notice here in the COWmunications forum.

    Good luck with your meeting.

[David Roth Weiss] “…thanks to your quick response many innocent lives were saved.”

Yes, but knowing you as I do, David, the operative word here is “many,” but not all.

[Joe Shaw] “at school we are working with CS3. I tried to open a document from school onto my home computer, but it said that it could not open the CS3 document onto the CS version. Is there a way around this?”

I have never found a way to open a CS3 file in the earlier CS version of InDesign.

I think what you are referring to with plug-ins, etc., is that as versions grow and change, often the plug-in technologies and hooks that were used to facilitate certain techniques will change with time, making the plug-ins incompatible.

Someone else may have better news but I have never found a way that works well enough to use.

I know that Framemaker can do things like those you mention but I am not sure that InDesign has this ability at the moment.

Anyone here ever done these kinds of things in InDesign? Inquiring minds want to know.

[Filip Vandueren] “Cheaper Hardware is what prompted this idea, I think.”

Which is exactly why, in all likelihood, that any reasonably suspicious product manager would turn and run from the idea. With the motivating factor being to see how cheap things could get, they would likely have little to no interest in it. I sure wouldn’t. Projecting the destination of something whose genesis is cheapness, does not bode well for anything other than a freeware/shareware product.

And having to hire and train support personnel to know and support Ubuntu would also be a nightmare from a manufacturer’s point-of-view.

    Your mileage may vary.

[Tim Wilson] “Let’s say a small company spends $10,000 to get to a tradeshow.”

That’s a pretty cheap tradeshow presence, Tim. We are a pretty small company and we always spent more than that to go to tradeshows like NAB.

[Tim Wilson] “Even at the biggest ones, they’ll meet maybe 10,000 people. They’ll get 500 leads out of that, maybe 1000. Which by tradeshow standards, will be a steal: $10/lead is unheard of.”

Ah, you are ever the generous soul. We never got close to that and we have a pretty large base to meet and draw from. Still, if we met and chatted with 3,000 people I’d be surprised. That was good by the way, as I always left hoarse in the throat anyway.

    :o)
