Thanks for the advice once again. Resetting the duration is indeed the ticket, I am just surprised it doesn’t see the duration of the clip and adjust automatically when you bring it in. We all use Boris in conjuction with the Avid timeline so much of the time it didn’t occur to me that this was normal.

I have looked, as well as some of my co-workers, as to where you can permanently change the duration in project settings without any success. Under the cache portion you can change within that project for adding new clips, but nothing that seems to stick when opening a new project.

Maybe you’ve found something we couldn’t, but regardless, thanks for the help. I appreciate it very much. Everything is running smoothly now.

Thanks Larry. This worked. I had tried this before, but it doesn’t work with the 1.0 Boris plug-ins on my version of Avid. It does work with the 1.5 plug-in.

I had installed and reinstalled the program several times trying to figure it out. The last time I didn’t install 1.5, so when I tried what you suggested it didn’t work. After installing the correct plug-in it now works fine.

If you have time I have one more question for you. When using the engine, everytime I bring in a quicktime or graphic, the timeline only shows the first second of what should be there. Just 1 second… 30 frames. This was another reason for my great confusion.

I’ve looked all through the preferences and other settings and am not finding anything that will allow the entire clip to come in.

Any ideas or advice?

I’m glad to hear you could use the info. Unfortunately, some of the colors still will cause the “jaggies” problem on the font. I don’t know a fix for this, it may be something only Boris can figure out unless someone else out there has a suggestion.

Let me back up a bit because your last reply was going in a different direction.

This is strictly an on screen video application and nothing that I’m trying to print.

I built some sentences using an animated reveal from the Boris Library. I then used a color from the pallet for fill and then applied an outline. This is what I was referring to as the outlined font.

After rendering the effect I was seeing “jaggies”, as you put it, on the diagonal sections of each letter on the inside over the colored fill.

I tried this with both Arial and Verdana font styles.

Since your last post I also did some more experimenting and found that there is a difference with which color you choose for the fill.

With White there were no problems, the fill/outline was clean. I then tried it with several other colors and here are my results.

Yellow was good.
Blue was good.
Red was bad…. well defined jaggies.
Green was bad.
Blue was not as bad… jaggies but not so defined.
Orange was not as bad.

So there certainly seems to be a difference depending on what color of fill you choose to use with the font.

I haven’t tried this with just a standard non-animated font, so maybe that’s where the problem lies.

I do know that it is color dependant and that it only shows up after rendering.

Under General in Preferences the Render Options have Multi-Processor Enabled marked as well as Use Host Settings. Draft Render is not checked.

Under Local Project both 1:2:1 Deflickering is checked as well as Better Wuality Field Rendering.

This is true with both the application when opened through the Avid and through the Engine.
