As i heard from Panasonic Switzerland, this gona last till next year. The PAL-Formats are not yet SMPTE certified and it will not be certified in this year. So Apple and Panasonic will not create any presets before this gona happen. I know from the Kona support, that they have a lot of request on this issue and that their ingeneers already work on it.

However it is possible working with 720p25 over 59.94/60 in FCP. You need to create your own presets.

I did another few tests and i’m pretty sure that this was a sync problem and its gone now. What i have now are strange screendesigns from the Kona2, when you switch between 1080i and 720p settings.

There is a problem occuring with the 720p 10Bit UC Setting for Kona Display. When you hit play, it will play in highspeed for a second and then come to a slow and jittery playback. This appears not every time, sometimes it places the 720p picture on the left upper corner of the cinema display and plays the clip at normal speed and full quality.

But at least I saw a clip playing with the handmade 720p25 settings, and I think its what I looked for. The original footage is noisy yet, so we don’t have to blow up the noise to 1080i. Or could it be usefull for color and picture corrections?

So i tried out the handmade 25p easy setup according to your list. I have put the AJ1200 in 60Hz and as far as i can see in the vtr-userbits, the tape has been recorded in 25p@60Hz (not 59.97).

So far the capturing worked fine, only that in motions and pans the captured pictures were split horizontaly, and the lower part of the picture were shiftet a few pixels to the left. A really strange thing who’s confusing me even more now.

What could that be?

Thanks for the guide. So I capture the footage over the Kona2 and RS422 device control? Which codec is used (DVCPRO HD, 8Bit, 10Bit)? And the AJ1200 must therefore be in 60Hz mode?

Unfortunatelly I don’t have a CRT in HD size or with DVI connectors. But you are right, I should check it and I’ll go therefore to a posthouse somewhere.

I would love to edit in native 720p25 mode, but as long as HD PAL is not SMPTE verified, Panasonic, Apple and Aja don’t seem to support it. The AJ1200 will automatically upconvert it. I also haven’t found any workaround to get it native captured. I could get theme as they were variable frame footgae, native with 60p and then use the framerateconverter, but this results in bad looking motions and pans.

Or did I missed here something?

how did you do that’? Nether FCP5 nor the Kona2 support 720p25 in any settings. Or can’t I find it?
