The problem core is different gamma in Quicktime and FinalCut (you can switch gamma compensation in quicktime 7 preferences). Or you can use gamma correction filter inside compressor to make proper color in mov file. But it’s not good idea to judge color in fcp or quicktime ((
May be the best solution you can use special LUT while rendering in Apple Color to compensate gamma shift.

    Hello Mike!
Some time ago I used to calibrate my monitors with Spyder 3 too. Spyder can make proper ICC profile to you. ICC profile is standard for characteristic of your display. But, in fact, there are big problems with video color correction and ICC standard. Simply because no color correction software can use this ICC profile.
The best solution for me was to take this ICC profile (created with Spyder) and convert it to 3D calibration LUT and use it with apple color. You can make it via cinema-algs service . It’s one of the cheapest solution for consistent color for video correction.

You should use maximum bitrate in your task. About 6-7 Mbps will be OK

Geoff, try to make easy setup. Then make new project (not new sequence, whole project) and add your files.

  • Try to use 5DtoRGB befor AE for accurate subsampling decoding. In AE you can try to add feathering to this gradient. Do not use cinemastyle while shooting. And use Magic Lantern to increase bitrate in 5D. And you can make a still or freeze frame over this gradient if possible. And of course NeatVideo and Nuke 6.3 denoiser.

Goodday. Do you know the feature, that framerate of audio depends of settings, that were set before your project was created. So if you change frame rate in easy setup for example, you should recreate your project from very begging, if you are using audio-only clips.
For me it was solution for “magic” out of sync fcp problem.
