You can build an expression involving variables that will give you the path to your proxy file, then execute a command to delete that file (/bin/rm on Mac OS X, or DEL on Windows). Test it using the echo command first.

What version of the worker are you using? Are you on the latest 5.0.2 update at https://www.squarebox.com/download/?

Also, what frame rate are the movies?

If you can find two small files that show the two types of behaviour (ie. showing timecode and not) and can upload them to us somehow (support@squarebox.com) we’ll be happy to take a look and see what the difference is. (Try to find clips that are only a couple of seconds long so the file sizes don’t get too big.)

As Bryson suggests, you should be able to do this by executing the command line to set the status to None (to indicate that an attempt was made to create the proxy) before starting the transcode, then updating it to Proxy Created on successful completion. One of the variables you can pass in to the command line is $I the database object id of the clip.

March 13, 2013 at 10:47 pm in reply to: Purchasing Cat DV

One of the strengths of CatDV is that it is very scalable. You can get started very easily and just drag in a folder of media files to create a basic catalog without any setup or training required. On the other hand, as you start using it it can very quickly come to embody your entire production workflow, so complex questions like storage, networking, archiving, editing, access control, and overall workflow design such as automated processing and enforcing project conventions, become more and more important. Designing a complete workflow tailored to your particular requirements is far from trivial (whatever software you use!), so it’s likely you might want some help with that.

Not sure why you’d be getting a -50 error when creating an .aiff but creating an audio-track-only .mov file is a good solution. Apart from anything else, that’s something that CatDV will pick up. When looking for the proxy for a file called file.xyz CatDV will look in the proxy folder for something called file.xyz, file.mov, file.mp4, or file.jpg.

March 13, 2013 at 10:27 pm in reply to: Changing the view

There isn’t any way to change the view layout I’m afraid – people use CatDV to work with all kinds of media files not just video, so having a “cell” that is roughy 4:3 is probably the best compromise possible to deal with everything from portrait stills to 21:9 HD.

One option might be to export all your thumbnails as JPEG files (using the Export Still Images command) and create an HTML index file at the same time. You should then be able to open the HTML file with a text editor and do a global search and replace (or use a CSS style sheet if your HTML skills are up to it) to change how it’s displayed.

March 13, 2013 at 10:16 pm in reply to: DATE Issue

Performing proper date searches on user-defined date fields is something we’re addressing in a future update (which involves both server and client changes). For now you should know that internally these fields are stored as an ISO string, regardless of how they are displayed, so to search for clips from December 2012 you could search where field starts with “2012-12”, and so on.

Thanks for this, we’re always happy to consider well reasoned and clearly described feature requests for possible inclusion in a future update.

March 13, 2013 at 9:59 pm in reply to: Importing FCP7 XML (produced in CatDV) to PPro CS6

    Hi Lindsay,

Without geting into the specific issues mentioned in your message, as that would require some detailed investigation where we might ask you to mail some XML files to support@squarebox.com, I do know that we made a number of changes to the FCP7 XML export function in CatDV 10 to support CS6. I believe these may have included aspect ratio and/or audio issues. Drop us an email so we can set you with a demo license of CatDV 10 for testing, so we can confirm whether this is something we’ve already addressed or you have a new issue.

More generally, are you familiar with the Paste Metadata command in CatDV? This can be useful in all sorts of situations where you have two lists of clips, perhaps one which links to the media correctly and the other which contains your log notes, and you want to combine them.

    -Rolf
