Thanks for all the suggestions on bulk edit and naming of markers which we’ll certainly consider. As Allan said, one possible alternative to multiple bulk edit steps is a regular expression based search and replace, but I can see that you might want something even more powerful than that in some situations.

I think the -47 error is a QuickTime issue which can happen if the folder you are exporting the file to is longer than 31 characters in length.

If you check the ‘Add timecode track’ option under Extra Tracks it will add a timecode track to exported reference movies. To adjust the timecode, use Tools > Apply Timecode Offset (you can’t just edit the In point: that trims a clip but doesn’t change the start timecode).

January 26, 2010 at 9:13 am in reply to: sequence clips list by seq. time – error messageYes, that sounds like a bug. Can you mail the XML file you are using to support@squarebox.co.uk so we can investigate please?

Try selecting Undo from the Edit menu if the keyboard shortcut doesn’t work. The effect of key presses can vary depending on where the keyboard focus is. For example, when you’re in a text field pressing Cmd-A will select all the text in that field, whereas at other times it will select all the clips in the main window. That’s also why the tab which shows your movie sometimes has blue and sometimes has white text by the way. The “Movie” label is shown in blue whenever the movie has focus, ie. pressing the space bar will toggle playback rather than typing a space into the current text field.
The spell checker isn’t currently available due to a 3rd party licensing issue but please contact sales@squarebox.co.uk if you need further information.

(I know we’ve been in touch off list to send you a demo license but I thought I’d follow up and answer your questions here for the record).
You can export in various formats, including XML, tab-separated text, HTML, batch logs etc. Obviously a tab-separated file doesn’t include thumbnails because it’s a text file, but you can export thumbnails separately as required.
Yes, you can share files between Mac and PC using CatDV. In a typical scenario similar to what you describe you might have full res files in Apple ProRes or something for use on the edit suites but create low-res MPEG4 or Motion-JPEG (OfflineRT) proxies for use on office PCs.

If you’re using CatDV Pro standalone, think of the catalog files you create as if they’re a spreadsheet or Word document. Anyone who can edit the document can delete a row, yes.
Just as with an Excel document, if you delete something accidentally all you need to do is choose Undo (or close the document without saving changes and reopen it).

There’s a Release Notes item in the Help menu

What version of CatDV are you using?
The Workgroup server is designed for small installations where everyone knows what everyone else is doing and everyone is working in the same shared area, so it doesn’t provide access control or keep track of who is doing what.
The Enterprise server adds users, groups and permissions, so you can set things up so only certain users can delete clips from the server.

8.0.8 has just been released, and we’ve updated the web site so it correctly reports the latest version.
