ultimately I think it depends on what type of films you make and for whom? For example I have worked in east timor where internet is not really that available and people in the projects were very happy to have a dvd as they didn’t have a computer but knew someone with a tv and dvd player. Ive also lived in remote bush huts in Australia where my electricity was generated out of my bedford truck battery to run my laptop and edit, and again internet was not available. Also grants bodies within the arts and festivals request a dvd of work.

Ive used utube and the like to post but i haven’t used drop box and usendit- though i will investigate further- i didn’t realise that you could send a large video file…
hmm i do see dvds being the past but this will be unfortunate because it will exclude people on the other end of the digital divide… and not all work made is for an international audience or just anyone…. and lastly a film dependent on internet connection changes the viewing according to your back pocket..

Yes i struggle with this exit from DVD format
as most of the work i do is currently put onto disc

what do you author on when cutting a dvd in FCPX?
do you use FCPX option? is it a insert and play set up?
can you make chapters?

Sorry Tom I hope I’m not wasting your time,
I meant what exported file do i suggest to the media business that
is handling putting all the tape content to file.
I will receive the files to bring into to FCPX to edit into a short showreel …

What in your opinion is the best free video converter (that runs on Lion) for VOB into .mov or other such FCPX friendly files to integrate into a project?

Title cards
In relation to titles I tended to use photoshop on previous FCP ( and motion) using image and font what in your opinion is the best import file type exporting from photoshop? It seems Jpeg is not supported (in the FCPX manual).

FCP files
Is there anyway to use previous FCP files(on mac pro and external) in the FCPX what about quicktime files?

What is the best preferences/settings for importing from Canon XL1 (I’ve read on other forums that firewire basic is the only way to import). Im currently waiting for a 4 pin to 9 cable to try it out.

I am currently use 30 day trial and plan to buy if compressor is not necessary for web and dvd burns i don’t need it at this stage?

DVD studio pro
No DVD studio pro any suggestions for a decent authoring program? The new iMac doesn’t even have idvd though the dvd share on FCPX seems to be close to idvd.
