November 3, 2014 at 3:01 am in reply to: will the iMac 5K Retina’s AMD Radeon graphics card be a problem for Premiere Pro CC and AE???Hi Nicholas,
Have you been able to test Premiere on the new imac yet? I’m on the verge of buying one also, but very interested to know if the software runs ok and how the gpu acceleration is?
I’m also planning to run a second 2560×1440 monitor off it as well. Anyone got any thoughts if that’ll go ok or just be folly?
Cheers,

Hi Jon,
That’s a good to know about adding to the layer count and even better is replacing layers but holding onto the key frames. That’s a beauty!
I think the only fail safe option with psd layers might be to export individual layers to their own doc while still in PS.
Hope they can make Ppro act like AE in a new version soon – I’ve already submitted a feature request.
Cheers,

Hi Jon,
Thanks for checking it out for me. I’m still having troubles however. I thought using replace footage, rather than link media might sort it, but no luck.
I’ve made a screen capture so you can see what happens when and the errors that occur too, I’ve also got AE on screen as a reference.
Basically if you only change something within a layer in PS PPro is fine, if you merge layers, or do anything like that it looses the link and doesn’t reconnect. AE keeps on working fine.
If you’re able take a look at the screen capture and see if anything makes sense?
Cheers,

Hi,
I’m having just the same problem except I’m in Pro CC 7.2.2
Being able to update a photoshop doc after editing individual layers into a timeline is critical for my workflow.
I’ve ensured that after altering the photoshop doc that there are the same number of layers in the same order with the same name. Everything for that photoshop file goes offline back in PPro and won’t reconnect.
Hope someone can help?

Hi all,
Thanks for the replys, I’ve got my head around what I need to do now.
Shane I think I will give the PR-Proxy a go and keep things simple that way.
Michael / John with each FCP update I hope apple make some improvements to the core file management etc. issues but alas….

Yes, that’s a fair call.
But leaves me feeling as though the L&T capabilities are a little lacking. If its possible to change codecs that you can transcode to, why not be able to chance other clip parameters too?
Cheers,

The problem with log and transfer is you can’t specify frame sizes (can you?).
I want to do do a really low bandwidth offline and edit at SD frames sizes, I think L&T only creates files at one HD frame size.
If thats right, can I transcode original media from camera through compressor to my desired offline specs then use L&C to online later? Will that set the correct metadata?
( I think a saw a another thread about altering that metadata – can it be done?)
I also need to create dvd and .mov wild reels with TC burn, which is neatly done through compressor so others can do paper edits.

It is me! That’s good.
How does batch capture know to transcode the files on drive rather than capture from tape? Do they need to have gone through the log and transfer window before the offline?
Cheers,

Hi Chris,
Thanks very much for your comments.Your note about YUV based clips makes sense as I noted an image sequence I imported was able to have a import color space assigned.
I’ll delve into the interpretation file after the long weekend. Looking forward to doing so.
Many thanks for the time you put into you reply.
cheers,
Rob
