  • What verion of VirtualDub are you using? Using preview and F6 capture mode fixes all choppy preview on capture for me.

Windows software raid also worked fine for me.

However, I have 3x WD30EZRS drives and they can capture 720p60 8bit uncompressed without dropping any frames if you are willing to put out some cash and don’t want to deal with RAID.

Click the video menu drop down in VirtualDub and select Preview (or just press ‘P’ in the capture mode). Then when you capture, press F6 to use the normal capture mode (F5 or selecting capture from the drop down menu will use compatibility capture mode).

This should fix frame drops during capture preview.

Forgot to follow up on this. I recently got a new mouse since I gave my old one to my dad. The issue no longer occurs with the new mouse.

The new mouse is wireless but no longer uses bluetooth like the old one. Might not be the reason it was fixed, but everything is fine now so I am happy.

The old set was MX5500 using bluetooth. The new set is MK710 a new receiver and 2.4ghz RF.

Not sure what you can do in that case. The drivers will obviously require BM hardware installed.

Have you consider using an alternative codec that would be compatible with the software others are using?

I am not sure exactly what it is that you are doing. But, BM hardware captures HD video in HDYC which is YUV using BT701 color space. It should be compatible with existing YUV decoders. The MJPEG format is supported by ffmpeg if you are willing to use that.

Blackmagic codecs are included with the drivers now.

But for playback you should not need anything particular. The uncompressed HD video is YUY2 raw format.
