  • To elaborate myself Im trying to manipulate a group of objects then hide the front obscuring cheek of it to see the internal workings.

I can then demonstrate things then hide it again.

also anyone know to make a cannon model fire? Is it best in C4d or after effects?
    thankyou again

  • sorry I meant this:

Finally 4.) when I select to hide items from my model of grouped objects there are two cheeks to an object one a copy of the other. When I hide one it hides only its self. when I hide the other both hide? why would both hide if I hide the one but the other only hides its self? Can they be tied together if I extrude one wooden object cheek from a spline then copy it to make the second?

the other answers are great thanks but can we elaborate on the display tag on the object and how to make key frames for them?
I think this is what I have done but are unsure.
    Kind Regards and thanks

Thankyou how do I upload a whole project?

It seems to me that it is not drawing the red line on it below a certain point even though the mask is big enough and the path shows the red line along it if I move the timeline marker. as soon as the path comes above it again it starts to draw. Also where it stops it just leaves a flat edge as though its been cut with scissors.
    Thanks

Its almost like there is a box on the screen where its not rendering the mask/stroke at full res but the mask is the same size as the map and the path/stroke goes where it should.

As mentioned when I drag the time line position marker the red line follows the path perfectly all round the map and the camera and lights follow but if I stop and let go the red line is only on part of the path/stroke.

Its almost like the bottom half of the path wont stroke.

What I have done is import the map I drew in photoshop.
make a solid the same size, draw my path with the pen tool then apply stroke effect and use timeline keyframes to whow start and stop.
the map pic is about 4.5 MB nothing else in the program.
If it will handle HD video why not a 5MB pic!?
Whats th emax size for a solid with path on? Is there something I should do differently?

I think I have fixed it. I thought it may be the 8 bit or 16 bit project settings but I found with all th ecrashing, open GL and exception errors it was not saving or confusing me with the project composition settings. It was rendering the whole thing to custom size of the imported pic so over 3000 by 3500.
I have now uninstalled and reinstalled it. dissabled open GL etc and I am now still having problems with errors and preview even with 3GB RAM but it renders playable files under 300MB now!!!
    Great stuff.

Ill look into the rest in slow time but its comforting. If you have any answers to the rest it would be appreciated.

Every time I close the program it throws up lots of exception errors etc.

Hi, thankyou for the swift response.

I am using it on a Pentium M series 2 GHz laptop with 1.5GB of RAM and also a Dual Core 3GHz Athlon Desktop with 3GB RAM which is very unstable with after effects due to Excepton errors and open GL errors.

It does the same on both.

It also will not render an output regardles sof the memory I have very slow videos which are non animated or just incredibly slow and take 20 minutes to show a 5 second render.

I am new to this so reading everything I can but knowing where to start is awkward.

The background pics are not really that complecated. the only things I can make it work properly on are black and white line drawings smaller than the screen size.

It must be possible to pan accross a larger picture in After effects an dput a line on it! Ive seen it on you tube.
Im only rendering a pic in a few colours made in Illustrator as vector art 3000 x 3000 and shaded simply in photoshop wih some text on it.
