If your goal is to create a high quality SD DVD, converting to 10-bit Uncompressed and simply dragging it to DVDSP isn’t the way to go.

the Limit Effect section is sorta hidden. You need to click the arrow at the bottom of the interface to open it

Yea, you’re going to definitely want a Mac Pro. ProRes wants an Intel machine.

You’ll render your timeline and encode with Compressor faster with an 8-core, but I have a 2X 2.26 Quad-Core at work and I think it’s just fine. I never find myself sitting at my computer thinking, “oh gee, this render time is just killing me.”“would 32GB of RAM cost more than the performance increase is worth? “
I don’t think FCP uses more than 4GB of RAM. More RAM is beneficial when you are using Motion or After Effects for motion graphics work. I personally have 12GB and I’m fine with that. I would recommend you get that amount as well. RAM isn’t as expensive anymore these days.My advice would be to get some kind of RAID. That’ll cut down the amount of time needed to render while you edit. Big time pros usually have 8-bay RAIDs. If you’re poor like me, a G-Tech G-Speed Es configured as RAID5 is a good option, maybe even a G-RAID if you’re really strapped for cash. The G-RAID is RAID0 though, so you’ll need to figure out some kind of back-up solution.
I’d also suggest purchasing a capture card. Even if you’re not going to capture tape, it’s still beneficial for accurate monitoring. The Kona LHi and Matrox MXO2 are nice. If you do capture tape, the Kona and MXO2 can transcode to ProRes in real time, which is nice. (I’m pretty sure the MXO2 can do that, i’m positive the Kona can)

This is what QMaster should look like:
-Click the Stop Sharing button in the bottom right corner
-Make sure Compressor is selected in that Services section in the middle of the window
-Click Options for selected services. This bring up the dialog box you see that says “Number of Instances” and I have 16 selected.
-Click Ok.
-Name your QuickClicker… I named my cluster “Robs_MacPro_QuickCluster”
-Click Start Sharing in the bottom right corner.When you go back to Compressor and click Submit in the Batch window, it’s bring up that second window where you click submit again, right? Before you click Submit the second time, change that drop menu from “This Computer” to whatever you named your Quickcluster

sounds like you missed something.
In the QMaster System Prefs, click Stop Sharing. Make in the Services section you have the Compressor row selected. Click on Options for Selected service. That brings up a menu for Number of Instances. Choose the largest number. Cick Ok. Then click Start Sharing.
All of that should be done before you begin Compressing in Compressor.
When you submit a batch to render in Compressor, Make sure you Choose your Quickcluster to render, not “This Computer”

Ahh, that’s a bummer. I’m sorry it didn’t work, but I’m surprised too. Changing the external editor works for automatically opening still images in Photoshop…
I haven’t used Logic for a while, but I bought it when I took a Logic Studio class in college. I’m almost positive that’s how I got from FCP to Logic.
I’m at work right now and we don’t have Logic here, but I’d be more than happy to try and figure it out when I get home from work tonight…if you’re still having the problem.
