FCP –> Logic
Hello All
I’m looking for advice for roundtripping a FCP7 project to LogicPro.
My main concern is that the audio automation (rubberbanding) that is included in the FCP sequence translates properly when opened in Logic.This doesn’t work with OMF.
I’m going to start experimenting with XML and AAF but I’m hoping someone already has a workflow worked out.The rub is that the file (or files) that I send to the audio suite has to be self contained. The audio mix will take place on a separate machine from the video edit. This works nice with OMF files and Protools. I’m hoping the process can almost as painless. (I can’t believe I used the word painless in the same sentence with an AVID product)

have you tried going to
FInal Cut Pro > System Setting > External Editors Tab and changing the “Audio Files” option to Logic?
Do this and you should be able to right click your SEQ in your browser and send it to logic…with the rubber bands translating.

That might have been the single most helpful bit of advice I have ever received on the COW!!!
I installed Logic after FCP on my system. I was assuming that after the install was finished that Logic would show up as an option for export in the FCP menus. I knew it had to be simpler than using an XML or AAF file.I haven’t tried this yet because I am not at home right now but this leads me to another question. Will this method create new audio files that can then be packaged and sent to an external audio studio? Or does the resulting Logic file access the same media that FCP uses?

Hate to say it but I take back the praise!!! (temporarily)
I just tried switching the external audio editor from Soundtrack to Logic but there was no change in the export options.Thoughts?

Ahh, that’s a bummer. I’m sorry it didn’t work, but I’m surprised too. Changing the external editor works for automatically opening still images in Photoshop…
I haven’t used Logic for a while, but I bought it when I took a Logic Studio class in college. I’m almost positive that’s how I got from FCP to Logic.
I’m at work right now and we don’t have Logic here, but I’d be more than happy to try and figure it out when I get home from work tonight…if you’re still having the problem.
