I have just converted the footage to Apple ProRes 422 and now it’s working fine. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction with the codec information. 🙂

Thanks for replying.

The codec: XDCAM EX 1080p25 (35Mb/s VBR)
The OS: Mac OS X Version 10.7.5
Version: AE 5.5

I’ve never used XDCAM footage before so do you think it might be worth converting it to something like ProRes 422? I shall include this kind of information next time I have a query.

Yes I am fairly new to After Effects, having mainly done motion graphics making text and particle systems. I have used videocopilot.net to do basic tutorials and some slightly more advanced ones but my understanding of the software is still quite limited.

Yes! I’m looking to do exactly what you’ve just described. How do I animate text with a jumpy style? Again, I’m fairly new to all this having only used after effects for picture grading and some motion graphics, however I understood what you meant when you were talking about separating the RGB and making a track matte. Unfortunately, I’m doing this with no money behind me so I can’t afford to pay for plug-ins.

After using AE for about a three months now, I am so very aware of how complex it really is. There’s a million and one ways to do things. I love using it but it definitely requires a lot of patience and dedication to learn how to use it properly.
