Kinda weak? This is what every NLE other than FCP X offers. And FCP X isn’t exactly popular with a whole lot of people, despite the sync by waveforms feature.”

You missed my point. The weak part is the docs. They do not have screen prints and leave out details.

As for FCP X, yep they botched the launch. Last week they started talking.

    Y’all be cool,

[Jon Barrie] “This is what I have been using in FCP for Multicam TV shows and now its available for PPro too.

    Matches based on waveform.

Yep, Been avoiding that, thought it cost more. I tried the standalone version and it did not work for my clips. However, this morning I discovered the clips from the shoulder cam have 4 channels of audio on them. Someone has reset the Matrix! I have made a mono version of one of the clips and am going to try that.

I thought 5.5 added the sync by waveform capability. X has it but it is not working on these clips. Again, it may be the 4 channels. It should ignore 3 & 4 but may not.

    Thanks JB,
    Robert
BTW, the merge clips just mixes them together, it does not sync. The Clip menu has a Synchronize option but it is always grey.

[Todd Kopriva] “You can synch according to In point, Out point, timecode, or numbered markers. See this page for details.”

Saw that. Kinda weak. Does not say it will sync based on the audio or what.

As you may realize from my post, there is no common timecode. I expect better/more from Adobe. I want it to sync based on the audio.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Men,

Except for a couple of surround projects, I always do the cut then export to Pro Tools by exporting an aif then bring the corrected aif back in. So I can use my notalentwannabee workflow and I am relieved. This would have been a showstopper for me.

Now I need to get back to Steve Martin’s training.

    That’s what I was hoping.

March 15, 2010 at 3:17 pm in reply to: How to burn P2 footage straight from camera to DVD?

[Noah Kadner] “DVD-R is 4.2 GB, DVD-DL is max 8.6 or so. So that’s half a 16GB P2 card- whose data cannot be reliably split at the Finder level”

That may be a good point. I was going to test this but my old TiBook needs DVD-r and I am out of those in single layer. May try it in a few days.

You did not say what computer platform you are on so let’s assume Mac OS X Leopard or SnowLeopard.

Let’s also say that you are using the cam, P2 reader, or pcmcia slot that mounts the P2 as a disk. You can select Contents and hold the cmd key and select Lastclip.txt. Then right click on Contents while the two are selected and select Burn 2 items to disc. This will burn them to a dvd or whatever as a DATA disc. DATA disc not playable of course in a set top player.

Some similar version of this procedure will work in XP or Win7 I believe but I have not tried it.

    Hope that helps,
    Robert

March 1, 2010 at 12:28 am in reply to: Shotgun To HPX300

[Steve Eisen] “Read pg’s 16, 17, 54 and 55 to get your audio down.”

None of which give me options for mounting my Audix shotgun to the HPX300. I need a mount or grommett that fits the stock mount.

I can get good audio if I mount my mic in my shock mount and screw it into the handle but that is where I want my light. I am not sure how I can make it more clear.

[Steve Eisen] “If all this is foreign to you, I’ll buy the camera from you.”

Good to see the Bob Zelin school of forum interaction is alive and well.

    Anybody have something constructive?

    Thanks,
    Robert

    Hey,

Once you get the laptop to recognize the cam, you should be able to switch between the laptop cam and the hpx300 in Ustream. I believe I ended up with 480i 16:9 when I tried it on my MacPro using firewire. Firewire tends to support the SD DV standard which is essentially 480i. I believe I was able to do 720 via the Kona on my G5, but I won’t swear to that.

Good luck and let us know the progress.

[Matthew Sonnenfeld] “Well, I suppose you could get an articulating arm and just have it cocked out to the side. redrock Micro makes a nice one for a decent price:”

Thanks, I may try that. I was hoping for something more elegant. I am surprised that there is not something that will let me mount my mic to the stock mount or it’s connecting point. I would expect many folks to have this need.

What are the HPX300 owners using? The panny mics? I have a wireless setup but plan to shoot some stuff where the shotgun will come in handy for background if nothing else.

    ‘Preciate the help,
    Robert
