To replace a clip with another clip (updating all timeline events associated with this clip) and keep your timeline edits intact do the following. Click on the “Project Media” tab, right click over the original clip and select “Replace”. In the pop-up window browse and select your new clip; this will replace all timeline events referencing your original clip and it will keep all of your edits intact.

ONE
To replace a single timeline event with a new clip (not changing other timeline events associated with the same clip) and keep your timeline edits intact do the following. Make a dummy copy of your *.VF file. Open the dummy copy in a separate session of Sony Vegas aside your original. In the dummy file follow the instructions above and replace all timeline events with a new clip. In your original file insert a new video track. In your dummy file, right-click over the single updated timeline event and click copy. In your original file, click into the new video track, right-click and paste. Click-drag the updated timeline event to line up vertically with the original timeline event. Delete the original timeline event and then drag your updated timeline event vertically into the original slot (this will preserve any fade overlaps you created.) Save your new Sony Vegas file and delete the dummy file.
