First off this should be in Basics and Config forum.
Secondly the Mac Mini has a Intel HD4000 GPU and cannot run Resolve at all,and OSX does not support GPUs attached to thunderbolt.
So get the Mac-Pro.

The trackballs on the 2K and DUI panels have little foam “wheels” which deteriorate over time. These little foam pieces contact the trackballs and when they get flat the encoder does not roll smoothly.
If you are handy you can take the trackball apart and replace the foam pieces fairly easily. I did this on one of our panels and I got the foam parts from the company who makes the trackballs. The company name is on the trackball and a quick google search will bring them up.

Yes even if the Display Port cold output video (i.e. FCP second monitor as video) OSX is 8-bit only and that output would be under the OSX color management and may be highly inaccurate.

All GFX card outputs from OSX are 8-bit and Resolve will not send full video to a GPU attached monitor only out to a SDI card through whatever interface the video interface is on, i.e. Thunderbolt or PCIe.

It probably depends allot on what system you are using, and especially what GPU.

That is a great document!
Another way to get a project done when you are working with the edit impared is to have them to send a single file without titles (and even dissolves) and use the shot change detector and then go in and edit the shot changes to tighten it up.
This is a bit of a PITA and you have to set marks and dynamics for any dissolves that might be in there but it take a huge load off project prep on the client end and can be very effective when THEIR facility is a mess.
I recently graded a totally disastrous edit with horrible TC problems from OLD OLD phantom footage (Very early model) and managed to get it out in two days with only a few picky QC issues. There was going to be NO possible way to grade that show (which was for broadcast) with a XML or EDL because of how much of a disaster their timeline/Project was.

I have to say that I am impressed by the V9 scopes and would use/trust them. They are a huge improvement from the V8 one’s and with a decent monitor GPU they should not cause a slowdown in system performance.
You could get a HD-SDI distribution amp to split the signal to the Sony PVM and the Mini with Scopebox. I am surprised that the PVM would not pass a clean enough signal to feed to your scopes.

Are you running V9? I think the scopes are fairly decent in Resolve V9 and a second monitor is pretty cheap.
Otherwise on that budget what I would do is to get a Mac-Mini and a copy of Scopebox plus a BMD UltraStudio Recorder for the Mini’s T-Bolt port.
They will be 10bit 4:2:2 scopes and Scopebox is really great.
Total cost is around $850.00 for the Mini, the Scopebox software and the BMD SDI Recorder box.

The Dreamcolor is a decent 10-bit panel but let’s be honest it is a PITA to use as a video monitor and was not really ever intended for that purpose. Also the HP is/was not exactly inexpensive at $2k (or so) without any video I/O so once you add a Gefen or Aja interface it adds up.
A $5k LCD monitor with proper high bit SDI video I/O and scopes and other video centric features etc. is a long way ahead of feeding a panel with an external box IMO. Many people seem to be happy with FSI and their products and the apparent willingness of FSI to take suggestions as to how to improve their product and their calibration seems like a good sign. Also they are talking to the LI guys and that looks like a great active response from this particular manufacturer.
I am using a Panny Plasma and I like it although I see the obvious problems with it as a Grade-1 replacement. The Sony PVM-2541 is a serious contender in this price category and it’s users seem to absolutely love it. So there are certainly choices in this price range.

I don’t think there is anything at all wrong with the FSI monitors, the questions are about profiling and calibrating them. I got the impression that FSI is trying to get the best our of their products. Remember a Dolby is about 10x the price compared to the top end FSI.
