  • I would transcode in Handbrake. Make sure the CFR (constant frame rate) button is selected.

Thanks for this suggestion. Didn’t work for me though… Any other ideas? Certain clips in this sequence will render with the exact same color correction and glow effect applied. Other clips won’t.

Anyone find a fast, modern graphics card for UltraScope lately? Blackmagic says cards can be purchased for $100, but the models they list seem to be old.
The card I’m using now has almost a 1 second delay with UltraScope.

    Thanks,

February 9, 2010 at 4:51 am in reply to: Compressor’s BD H.264 Streams are now Spec Complaint

    Hi,

I just used Compressor to make H.264 files for Blu-ray. Quality is great at higher bit rates, but there is a significant red bias. This is the first BD I’ve made with Compressor, so I don’t know if it has something to do with my input files or not. They were provided by my client: DNxHD QT, 1080i, 29.97, millions+, 709 (video) color space.

Contrast and saturation on the Compressor output file are fine, hue is good too, but reds are definitely emphasized – most obvious in skin tones for instance. Has anyone else noticed this?

Second question on a related note: When I try to adjust color using the Compressor “Color Correct Midtones” filter, the resulting .264 file is corrupt – just a red-tinted still-frame. Has anyone else been able to get this filter to work with H.264 files?

    Thanks much,

    Rob

December 15, 2007 at 3:08 pm in reply to: Hybrid/DVD@ccess DVDs for PC users?

I have authored two recent discs using StudioPro and Intellidisc. The discs work well on Mac and PC, but not Vista. Neither client was concerned about Vista incompatibility. These were give-away discs for product promotion.

  • Jack –

Have you checked out Intellidisc? View the demo then download the free trial software. Sounds like it might help you by allowing users to view the PPT at it’s native resolution.

    Hi Charles,

Thanks for the suggestion of “JVC ProHD STB”. It sounds very interesting. Could you send me a link or any other info? I’ve searched, but can’t find exactly what you’re talking about.

    Thanks again, Rob

    Charles,

Thanks much for your detailed reply.

Yes, it is a specific player: the Alcorn Macbride “Digital Video Machine” (plays Mpeg2 from Compact Flash card). It only plays Mpeg2, and only up to 15 Mb/sec. I’m sure there are many situations where it works just fine. But in my case, I’m sizing down the resolution of the tape from HDV 1080 to 480 during encode, then sizing it back up from 480 pixels to that 42″ LCD (not sure of LCD’s native resolution)on playback. This process is destroying the picture.

This is made worse by the fact that the video is for a virtual ride – the footage is POV driving down the street – so lots of diagonal lines and variety of trees, all coming at the viewer at 30 miles per hour. This is a very demanding encode, so I’m trying to make sure I have every setting correct.

Thanks again for your help. Please let me know if you think of anything else I can try – or if you know of a kiosk-quality HD player that’s less than $5K.
