we have 2 Sony Z1U HDV cameras and they have been terrific. Shooting in HDV and then downconverting produces some really amazing results.

Sory that we have no experience with the Canon. It is quite new. Seems to be an excellent camera. We can say the Sony does an awesome job both in HDV and SD. We like the Z1U version because of the added pro features like XLR mic inputs.

Why would you shoot this in PAL if it has to be NTSC in the end? I known PAL is marginally better……

But my point is shoot in HDV NTSC and the downconvert to SD NTSC. You will have something that is much better than shooting in SD PAL with the Z1U. We shoot with these great cameras all the time and always shoot in HDV and downconvert.

Again why shoot in PAL? That is a bit yesterday.

the SGM1000 is an excellent Mic. we have one and it works very well. Contrary to some opinions, there is shotgun life under $400 that does not suck. Of course this is in my opinion and we do have a Sennheiser. the Azden compares well and is great value for the money. the SGM-2x is excellent as well.

these people are not so hard to find. I e-mailed Maryanna sometime last year and she responded. I subsequently met her at NAB. What a terrific person and great ambasador for Avid. And Tim called me last week as well…..so I don’t think it is so unusual. E-mail them and get acquainted.

    Oak,

Qualify that last sentence. It is not worth it if you are going to use Mojo. Home brew systems can work very well otherwise.

We have 3 systems running pro without Mojo that we built ourselves. They run 12 hours or more a day for 6 days or more a week and work very very well.

Won’t toiuch mojo until the next version.

wired lavs work very well. ALWAYS try to use a wired lave first. the best wiresless can’t match a decent wired lav.

    SETH,
Good advice. we use a FP-33 Shure field mixer and the -12 setting is about right in manual mode. Also important to have a headphone return line so the sound guy can hear what he is getting at the camera.

If the speakers are not powered get an integrated amp. we have a couple we bought on eBay and rack mount them and use good bookshelf monitors. Great sound. you also get a hedphone jack on the front of the receiver and that gives more flexibility.
